399 KB Ask someone who's finished FFXIII anything Anonymous 02/21/10(Sun)19:34 No.50333321
Greetings fellow /v/irgins. I've just finished FFXIII, haven't done all the side quests yet but I've done enough of them to have gotten a feel for what they're like. I'm sure I'm not the first/only one on /v/ to have the game but none-the-less I figure some of you might appreciate the oppurtunity to ask someone specifics about the game first-hand.

/v/ being /v/, most of you have probably already judged the game and decided whether you like it or not without even playing it but objectively speaking, I think it's a pretty good game overall despite some glaring faults, and for the more open minded of you I'm sure I'll be able to help clarify some of the game's strengths and weaknesses, and hopefully somewhat sway your opinion.

    Ask away.

How would you say it measures up to the other FFs in terms of difficulty?

I've only played IV (DS), VI-X and XII; I found it more difficult than IV, VII, IX, X and XII, easier than VI and possibly VIII (though VIII may have a lot to do with the fact that I haven't played it through properly since I was about 13).

People worry that the lack of MP and HP getting fully restored after each battle will make it to easy but believe me random encounters have been made more than tough enough to balance that out... I had more trouble with some of the random encounters leading up to the later bosses than the bosses themselves though so S-E did something wrong there.

How can it be good if the first half of the game is a straight line?

It's not QUITE as linear as people seem to believe; you'll still occasionally need to make the odd detour to pick up up a treasure where there'll be a few enemies to fight or whatever... but it is pretty linear.

The reason it didn't bother me all that much is because the pacing was just so damned good for the first half of the game that it made up for it... there was constantly something happening even if it was happening along a straight path; there were always enemies to fight between scenes, and there were a lot of cutscenes, but they were never too long or drawn out and characters also delivered dialogue as you were playing so I never really got bored.

Ah yes, since people are bound to bring it up, there is perhaps an implied relationship between Lightning and Hope, and Vanille and Fang... but I would say the relationship between Lightning and Hope was more like the relationship between any adult who's forced into a situation where they have to look for a child, or maybe an older sister and her younger brother. Fang and Vanille, again I'd say were more like family/very close friends... there's nothing overtly romantic about either relationship but fanboys/girls and 'shippers' will certainly say that there was.

I keep hearing this nonsense bullshit that Lightning is a character from the future who went to the past and is now the current timeline of FF13. My friend keeps telling me he's been reading this on spoiler sites and on /v/. How much of that is true?

Also, did you get it on 360 or PS3? Or are you playing the awesome japanese edition?

thats the real flaw with ff13 the only endgame is hunting missions it's a once and done exprience. you will get a solid 30 hours maybe 40 if your herp derp slow.

I won't deny that I'm a fanboy when it comes to FF... before playing the game, I thought it was probably gonna be pretty flawed, but with just about enough redeeming features that it's worth giving it a chance (which is how I felt about XII as well), but I think I made the right call in both times... I definitely enjoyed XIII a lot more than XII though I thought XII had it's strengths as well. I'll agree that the series isn't what it was, and I can see how you'd be put off playing it, but personally I think it's still worth playing and if you don't agree then that's fine by me; each to his own.

It's not hard to tell it's something you should buy as a fan of the series just by looking at info released by both the company and fans who played it. I reiterate, saying this deserves to be called a Final Fantasy game would be like saying FF:TSW deserved to be called a Final Fantasy film. Even FF:MQ is more deserving of being called a main entry than this shit.

    I wake in the morning
    Tired of sleeping
    Get in the shower
And my make my bed alone
I put on my make up
    Talk into the mirror
Ready for a new day, Without you
And I walk steady on my feet
I talk my voice obeys me

    I go out at night
    Sleep without the lights
And I do all of the things I have to
    Keeping you on my mind
But when I think I'll be alright
    I am always wrong cause

    My hands
    Don't wanna start again
    My hands
    No they don't wanna understand
    My hands
They just shake it try to break whatever piece I may find
    My hands
    They only agree to hold
    Your hands
And they don't wanna be without
    Your hands
And they will not let me go
No they will not let me go

    I talk about you now
    And I do without crying
I go out with my friends now
    I stay home all alone
And I don't see you everywhere
And I can say your name easily
    I laugh bit louder
    Without you

And I see diferent shades now
And I, I'm almost never afraid now
But when I think I'll be ok
    I am always wrong cause

I was on about 70 hours when I finished the game having played fairly slow and done some, but not all of the sidequests... I reckon the game has another good 30+ hours left in it if I want to go for the platinum. At an estimate, the main game is around 60 hours without the sidequests, and there are probably around 30 hours of decent side-quests, then another 10-20 if you wanna grind for the platinum.

    >>50336729

You should do; to compare it to other entries, I'd say it takes some of the better elements of VI, X and XII (but of course it's missing some of the better elements from those entires as well)... at the moment, I'd say it's one of the better entries in the series but certainly not the best... but really I don't like to judge a game till around a month or 2 after I finish it when I can reflect on it more objectively.

Well at least you're open minded unlike all the Western reviewers who think it should have freedom of Fallout 3. No, Mass Effect 2 barely has any freedom compared to the first.

So what would you rank it out of the 14 FF games that exist (including FFX-2)?
    >> Anonymous of College Park,MD 02/21/10(Sun)20:27 No.50338381
Is it true that the game is mostly linear?

What is PSICOM and it's purpose in Coccon? What kind of weapons do they have against the protagonist?
    >> Anonymous 02/21/10(Sun)20:30 No.50338729
    Hey, OP!

How is the combat system? Is it clunky and odd with a bunch of useless tidbits (like x is obviously weaker that y, so why use x?) or is it boring (a la ff12. Point at enemy and win)?

Are the summons worth using or are they pointless (like in 12)?

What changes were made from the other FF games that make it stand out?

Also, what are your least and most favorite aspects of it?
    >> Anonymous 02/21/10(Sun)20:31 No.50338817
    >>50338061
Truth be told, I hardly used summons, much the same as in XII.

    >>50338202
Of the FFs I've played I'd say it goes something like VI>VII>IX>X>XIII>IV>VIII>XII>X-2... but I may change my mind in time.
