Earthbound is a great game...I've been told by people to play it. I did and i was impressed but not TOO impressed. They overhype the game like it's fucking the greatest shit they ever seen. It's a great game but you don't have to go all cuckoo insane for the shit.

I don't "hate" Mother, I just hate the fanbase. I played the games but I didn't really see what's so great about them. It's pretty much Dragon Warrior, but with kids instead of warriors.

The worst part, is that there's this Fatlus guy where I work who always come up to me and talks to me about Mother and Persona. He doesn't know I've played them, so I just smile and nod. On multiple occasions he has even tried making referances to the games when talking to the customer. He's even received a few complaints about it.

tl;dr
I think the games are average at best, yet the fanbase is crazy for the game and shotas.

Actually, most of the time I've seen Mother discussions and people like you appear, Mother fans always reply by saying "oh, you don't like it? that's ok... I guess it wasn't your cup of tea" or something along those lines. The Mother fanbase is one of the most civilized and organized fanbases I've seen in gaming.
True, maybe they're obsessed, but they don't let that obsession blind them... they know Mother is not THE BEST GAME EVER, just their personal favorite game.
