It's all about your personal preference, really. I don't care much about ME2 or Bioshock 2, so I just minimize those threads. But the boards are guaranteed to be inundated with FFXIII, MH3, and Lost Planet 2 posts in the coming months, and I'll be interested in those.

the vidya is pretty good about this. sometimes a game gets too much attention (like ME2, it's a fucking excellent game but shut the fuck up about it already) but most of the time theres a variety of games being discussed, most modern games but sometimes old games and 3x3/"favorite game" threads

I think comparing any game to the Big 3 is a shaky proposition. Video games, as a medium, are vastly different from cartoons. As I said earlier, even if I don't particularly care fore Mass Effect 2 threads, I can see what keeps them going. Multiple decisions affecting gameplay, statistical differences, and POST YER SHEP all make each experience of the game unique.
Same thing with Pokemon and Monster Hunter. I don't think you could get away with comparing any video game to a long-running series, even old, linear games.
