Because Recon guns suck terrible dick. The unlock guns are worse than default gun and all you're going to do is spot for a team that won't pay attention to your marks and will in all likelihood be all recon and therefore get no points.

Rush is also a shitty, shitty ass gametype.

Keep playing as Recon. You will get some decent upgrades, such as that 5x scope for midrange. Turns every sniper rifle into a good one.

There is no other gametype right now, but Rush just sucks. It doesn't even feel like Battlefield. Battlefield is about being tactical, decisive, and a good old back and forth tug of war between clashing armies. The game mode that best captured this was Conquest.

Rush is awful, and the map also sucks, it's a ginormous corridor.

Am I the only one disappointed by BC2's bullet drop? I shot a guy all the way across the map and missed and wondered why. I shot him again and still missed. Then I realized I was aiming too high, I just had to aim a couple pixels above his head. After that I was nailing headshots left and right. I don't know... it just seems a little too simple.

Why does the worst class in the game get mortar.

If you're at a higher elevation than your target you don't need to aim as high.

You could always go Recon with the Semi-automatic shotgun.

Pretty effective stuff when combined with the motion Sensor, You can generally clear out an entire building single handedly.

Recon is not the worst class, it's just the sniper class. The fact that sniping is played up as cool in like all media and the romantic notion of a sneaky professional cleanly dispatching his enemies from distant safety with a single, efficient bullet to the skull attract all the kids.

Recon, used properly, is fucking amazing. On the beta map an attacking recon can singlehandedly destroy half the objectives with mortars and keep mortaring enemy choppers to make them unable to even get in the air. Also, spotting.
