What's so bad about FFX? It's a really good game. The story was decent, there was somewhat of a challenge, the storytelling was good, the music was good, and the graphics still hold up really really well. The gameplay and the turnbased is excellent.

I really can't find anything BAD about the game.

    It's not a bad game, but;

    - Unlikable, far-too-optimistic main character
    - Bad romance
    - No overworld
    - Too much of the game focused on recent history instead of the present or what happened 1000 years (or whatever) ago
    - Few mentionable or rememberable NPCs
    - Very few Final Fantasy staples, and of the ones that made it into the game they were extremely short lived.
    - The whole Yu Yevon thing was a mess and the final fight was pointless.

Actually, you're making me remember how mediocre and boring it actually was.
    >> Anonymous 02/03/10(Wed)20:02 No.48490783
I like it a great deal. Liked the characters, I felt Tidus was actually very well done. Why the fuck SHOULDNT a teen superstar be all whiny and bitchy after being thrown into a world he knows nothing of, with people who have NO idea who the fuck he is?

Whiny brat done right. ALSO LOL FATHER ISSUES SO THE STORY RELATES TO ME BETTER HAHA.

The fuck? Wasn't this the entire point? A giant whale has humanity in a chokehold and the way to stop it is to sacrifice someone to put it to sleep. Only for it to reawaken 10 years later for someone else to do it again.

Yeah, good point. I can't really refute that, at least out of memory or quick Wikipedia searches.

Still, my problem wasnt that it was some exdeath-ish mess of whateverthefuck they felt like putting together, it was that yu-yevon was very... plain? It was just like a black blob. A relatively small one at that. I mean, I know the whole less is more argument, and maybe it was just a manifestation of all the "bad things" and blah blah blah, but man - it seemed like that would be the one time some creature of nightmare would be very relevant to use.
    >> Anonymous 02/03/10(Wed)20:12 No.48491664
the "final fight" was against Braska's Final Aeon.

the yu-yevon portion was story and nothing more, and the entire yu-yevon thing was well done when you realize what they are trying to tell you.

that one mans idea of what is right (yu-yevon) can destroy nations, the initial goal of yu-yevon was twisted and got completely out of control, and no one was willing to end the cycle.

That isn't "god" per se. That's only Yevon, the man who led Zanarkand against Bevelle, and after seeing the machina that Bevelle employed, he made Dream Zanarkand to preserve it, and then constructed magic armor for him to destroy his enemies, but with the passage of time, he lost his humanity and became Sin. The future generations then perceived that using machina would be to incur the wrath of Yevon, and that Sin was his punishment.

FF X was the least turn-based of all of the numbered FFs up to its point. The ATB system is an utter joke of a 'real time' system since in all of the games it is in it basically defaults to a cycle of unending turns.

If character's ATB gauges actually filled at appreciably different speeds, it might matter. As it stands, the delay/agility mechanic causes FF X to be the LEAST turn-based.

What's so good about FFX? It's a really bad game. The story was retarded , there was somewhat of a challenge, the storytelling was confusing , the music was good, and the graphics still hold up really really well. The gameplay and the turnbased is kinda decent.

I really can't find anything GOOD about the game.

Just because you didn't like it doesn't mean it's a bad game. I just cannot understand why people call out a game for being bad just because they don't like it. I mean, I HATE FFVII, but I'm not gonna say it's a bad game.

But seriously, I'm assuming you mean to only just the actual gameplay, correct? Which you stated was "kinda decent". Why do you feel the game is really bad, then? Where is the jump from decent to bad?

Sorry, but forcing child-like optimism on any and every situation is an immensely unlikable trait. The few times Tidus did get serious, no one could respect or care to acknowledge what he had to say. He comes off as some sort of sheltered child who was home schooled and was denied any form of interaction with the outside world, then one day he's booted out the door and he just skips around a Detroit-like-slum giggling and smiling at every dirty nigger he comes across.

1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8, 9, and a bunch of spin offs, though I've only completed 7, 8, 9, and 10 (and some spin offs). We both know I'd be here for hours typing out at least 40 NPCs I recall from each game so I won't, but I can honestly say I remember like, THREE from FFX (Seymour, Jecht, and Brother). That's pretty fucking bad.

I think I remember more from FF7 and 8 than any other FF, though.

ANd they did this continuously. Lulu, Wakka, and Kimarhi hated Tidus and thought he didn't know what he was doing in the beginning. Only Rikku, who didn't know what the pilgrimage was about really listened to Tidus. If anyone was giving orders around it was Auron and Lulu.

What the hell is wrong with you people who lost to Evrae? I always found him to be one of the easier boss battles. Party low on health? Rikku uses Al Bhed Potions. Don't have many of those? Well why the fuck not? You didn't use Steal on every machina you came across in the desert? And come on. Auron -> Armor Break and Mental Break + Tidus -> Slow and Haste/Hastega + Wakka on Attack Reels = one dead Evrae.

just because you liked it doesn't mean its a good game, I found it mediocre because:

    -no world map
    -lineal as shit
-retarded story, seriously, braska and auron tried to fight yunaleska, but this shit with sin was happening years before that, no human or albhed or ronso or anything tried to fight their way out? no one? its not like they didint have the means, you use standard things, swords, spears...
    -forgettable characters, except Auron

the only thing it had that I remember still today is the fact that is the first final fantasy (and the only if Im not mistaken) where the protagonist and the love interest kiss each other AND YOU ACTUALLY SEE IT

How does many memorable NPCs make a good game, btw? Or how is it a good thing in general? I have no problem with the supposed lack of memorable NPC's in FFX, so I'm genuinely curious as to why it's a big deal to you.

I honestly don't, I gotta flee in 25 minutes, and I was honestly mistaken when I said I could remember at least 40 NPCs from every Final Fantasy I've played. I just had 6, 7, 8, and 9 in mind when I said it and wasn't thinking of it when I started listing the others I've played.

Rememberable NPCs are important when you're playing a game that involves traveling the entire planet. It adds atmosphere and personality to the game. It also gives you a reason to want to progress in the game; to both save the delightful characters you've met so far and to look forward to what new characters you might encounter. What's the point of saving a planet for a few people you're partied with you don't even like and the main character is already dead? I can't be compelled to do something just for the sake of doing it, especially in a game where the gameplay consists of little more than clicking through menus and walking from point A to point B.

This made FFXII even more of a chore to me, and why I got bored within minutes and never picked it back up.

My favourite. It was the best in every respect in my opinion. The visuals were more original and inspired than the previous two, the score was as good as any Uematsu has done, for once the main character wasn't a moping sack of shit even if he was a bit annoying at times, most of the characters were great with lots of development and you really felt for them (except Kimahri goddamn), it explored some complex themes like religion, the graffix were above and beyond anything else at the time. Not a big JRPG fan but I love this game.

"I started to give up hope."
