50,000 people used to live here, now, i'm pushing deeper into the zone.

After playing STALKER for the past 10 days straight i've gone ahead and booked a weekend trip to visit Chernobyl, the NPP, the Red Forest, and Prypiat. Kiev as well. Shit is gonna be cash.

Why would you actually go there? There's nothing there, dude. Just because video games make it look cool, it's not going to be cool in real life. You know what you're gonna find? Some old buildings with some worthless junk inside. Anything valuable was scavenged away a LONG time ago.

OP here. I recommend trips like these. I went to Auschwitz last year. The smell of burnt jews gave me a hard on...but seriously, it was a great trip. I also went to visit normandy...omaha, utah, and gold beaches, pegasus bridge, point du hoc, and saint mere eglis. Even just travelling from place to place on the tour bus looking out at the hedgerows and countryside and imagining what WW2 was like was an amazing experience. Our tour guide was great. The amount of knowledge this guy had on the invasion was phenomenal.

These kind of vacations are cheap as fuck. The chernobyl one is only like $500.

From what i understand, there are tours around the towns of Chernobyl, Pripyat, and Red Forest, you have to pay for an innoculation against certain types of radiation, your asked not to touch anything, and wear plastic bags around your shoes when walking over certain soil.

Other then that, its very safe

    # A science fiction video game named S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, released in 2007 by Ukrainian developer GSC Game World, and a prequel, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, released in 2008, is set in the zone of alienation. Authentic photos and video footage from the zone were rendered into the graphics used in the games.[9]
    # In addition to S.T.A.L.K.E.R., the game Cold War partially takes place in the Chernobyl NPP in 1986 just a few hours before the accident. It suggests that the accident was caused by a corrupt KGB director, trying to discredit Perestroika and create a new Stalinist government.
    # In the American film Godzilla Matthew Broderick's character, an NRC scientist, is studying the effects on wildlife due to the radiation leaked by the reactors at the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone before going to Panama to observe the wreckage of the recovered Japanese fishing ship.
    # Sound artist Jacob Kirkegaard recorded a series of pieces entitled 4 Rooms, based on the acoustic resonance of a church in the village of Krasno, and an auditorium, swimming pool and gymnasium in Pripyat.
    # The hospital section of Half-Life 2: Episode One was based on photos of a hospital in Pripyat.[10]
    # Return of the Living Dead: Necropolis and Return of the Living Dead: Rave from the Grave films, were filmed in Romania and Ukraine, including the Chernobyl NPP.
    # Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare includes 2 levels and a multi-player map set in Pripyat.
    # Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 also includes a Spec-Ops mission "Hidden" based in Pripyat.
    # In the novel Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: CHECKMATE, Sam Fisher visits the site and resides with a local who refused to leave. He investigates the theft of radioactive material from a bunker beside the power plant after a boat carrying such material attempted to beach on the American Coast

It's fucked up because there was a mass evacuation and a shitload of radioactive material dumped on everything, then people started coming back and stealing all of the irradiated shit that had been left behind, If you own any 80's era soviet memorabilia, you might want to keep watch for a third arm sprouting from your chest.
