About to start playing these games, what are your opinons?
    >> Anonymous 02/01/10(Mon)01:14 No.48237610
If you like the shitty gameplay of MMO's, but hate having to deal with real people, you'll love it.

    JK! Pretty fun, interesting games.
    >> Anonymous 02/01/10(Mon)01:14 No.48237626
I tried it for around an hour, i know it's not much but i did not see anything that catched my attention.
The gameplay was unattractive for me.
    >> Anonymous 02/01/10(Mon)01:14 No.48237666
Beat the first 3, enjoyed em. Never got a chance to play the 4th one.

The newer ones "GU" or whatever were supposed to be pretty terrible though.

Did you watch .hack//Sign? If not I don't think you will survive playing the first series of games. They are really dry and the maps and combat will get on you nerves eventually. It is however worth playing if you are a .hack fanatic. Lots of important things in the games.

    >>48237526
Compared to the .hack//games GU is an improvement in literally every way. Even for people not all that interested in .hack cannon they are quite playable and fun.

Give the games a shot. If you can't stand the first games just move on to GU (read up on what you missed if you want). I'm sure GU will keep your interest.
    >> Anonymous 02/01/10(Mon)01:23 No.48238236
OP, there's severe difficulty spikes at a few points in each of the games. level up as much as possible in each of the story missions.

IMOQ's story is way better than GU's but GU has much better gameplay.

I just watched //sign, do these games take off where the //sign ended?

    The original 4 do

    The G.U. games don't.

also these games give me a massive nostalgia bomb for some reason

    //G.U. is much more entertaining.

The story doesn't drag and isn't as fragmented as the original series.

That link got me, I played the first game almost 8 years ago...

The gameplay gets boring after a while, but the story is great, especially if you're into the whole .hack series.

Oh man, I could listen to that for hours. In fact I think I did back then.

In GU when I saw the name I gave Kite in the first .hack as the last boss of Rebirth I had to stop and take a moment to gather my thoughts.

I remember the last boss of the first fame being the biggest asshole of any boss I've ever fought in a game.
    >> Anonymous 02/01/10(Mon)01:31 No.48238785
Would've played them if they had Kajiura's music, like the anime series.

It would've made the game bearable.

    lol -datadrain-'d randomly was bullshit

At least healing items were spammable like in MMORPGS. But god forbid MC gets DD'd. Best to take two melee bros and fill em with restoratives/antidotes and health drinks.
    >> Anonymous 02/01/10(Mon)01:33 No.48238897
I remember playing this and I tried so hard to feel like I was really in some massive MMO with tons of people playing and shit.

Was fun for a while, but maybe I didn't know what I was doing, or maybe the game was just too grindy.

Like most of the other posters have said, if you're really into .hack you will enjoy the fuck out of the first 3 games.

I just couldn't bring myself to get any further past the first hour of the 4th game because the difficulty curve just went straight vertical bullshit. Also I was tired of the "pause-screen" combat bullshit. It felt like a poorly simulated turn-based RPG.... they really needed to implement a better combat system.

Thankfully, they did this in G.U. and those games were a lot more enjoyable to play as a result.

I love the .hack series and I hope Link hits NA.

The last boss of infection is basically where you learn that you can spam items from the inventory without any time passing. Which seems to make the other games bosses easier. Also the boss fight comes out of NOWHERE, which I think it why most people find it hard. They didn't really prepare.

The only way I beat the fourth one was to literally convince myself that this is work and not play. The most amusing thing about the fourth title was that thought.

Also, the last boss was a potato

Where did Cubia fit into all this? Was he a virus inside a virus?

The games all seem to make it over ok. The anime was as well. Though Roots doesn't seem to have been picked up yet which is odd.

    Roots aired on Cartoon Network.

We also got a bunch of the Light Novels and stuff like that, so I'd be very surprised if we didn't get Link.

I figured as much. I just didn't see a North American release date on the wiki page.
