Can someone remind me why /v/ hates Fortress Forever so much?

I decided to try it out and got my ass raped and hated it at first, but decided to at least try to get good enough at it to get 1:1 kill ratio due to the fact that I am not the kind of faggot who quits after getting owned. One month later and I discovered that its actually a damn good game when you get into it. I dare say in many ways better than TF2.

Is there some reason /v/ hates it other than the learning curve? I'm not seeing it. The only downside is lack of populated servers around 2:00am PST.

It's fun, /v/ just hates games with a learning curve.
    >> Anonymous 01/28/10(Thu)18:24 No.47943101
Anything you can't pick up and play is hated here, didn't you know it's mostly TF2, ME2 and MW2? /v/ is the casuals.

Answered your own question there pal. The majority of /v/ ARE faggots who will quit a game if it does not grant them instant gratification via victories that require no real skill.

Bad timing. Even if it was released a week before TF2 beta went live it would be overshadowed. I was waiting for FF like anyone else was - thinking TF2 was just another fart in the wind, never to come by.

But then they both came! On the same day!
Of course I dropped to my knees and gobbled gabe's offering, it looks better than FF

    More balanced IMO.

in old TF and TFC Medic and Soldier were rediculously overpowered, while spy and pyro were near useless.

Soldier still has an edge in FF, but it's not nearly as recockulous as the edge he had in TFC.

DS has no serious learning curve. If you think that is a learning curve then you do not know what a learning curve is.

I liked it until TF2 released.

If you're a 12 year old kid who can't afford TF2 or a 30 year old nostalgiafag, then enjoy your game, bro.

Most of the people who play it are 20~ year olds that hated TF2.

    I'm glad FF exists.

It means everyone who would be playing and bitching about it can go play another game and leave me to my fun game.

Actually very few of either of those groups play FF.

FF is opulated by gamers with a specific mindset:

-They appreciate skill games that take a while to get good at ( or even halfway decent at )
-They hate games that require little skill and can be picked up and played by anyone.

They prefer FF to TF2 because they consider TF2 too "noob friendly".

For instance, lets say a Spy runs into a soldier head on in TF2. The Spy is almost guaranteed instant death. Lets say a Spy gets behind a soldier, the Soldier is guarenteed instant death.

Now the same scenarion in FF: Spy runs into Soldier. Soldier still has an advantage, but they have to duke it out Unreal style. A better Spy will kill an unskilled soldier. In reverse, the FF Spy cloak is slightly visible while moving and the backstab hitboxes are much less forgiving. An Alert Soldier can avoid a backstab if he pays attention.

TF2 is designed so that each class is ridiculously overpowered in their own specific situation, but near worthless outside of their role. FF is designed so that classes only have a slight edge and skill makes up for the rest.
    >> Anonymous 01/28/10(Thu)19:21 No.47947394
TF2 is only popular because it lacks any serious depth or mechanic that allows for a good player to absolutly rape a bad one regardless of class. This makes it so new players who join the game do not get raped and can actually stand a chance to win.

Most "gamers" these days do not actually want to take the time to learn a games mechanics. They want instant gratification, they want to win without actually being good.

The true irony in all this is that the very same retards who are only sticking to easy games because they can actually win are constantly accusing the players of classic hard-shooters of being "Tourneyfags" and "only playing to win." when in reality it is exactly the other way around. FF, TFC, QTF so called "Tourneyfags" are sticking to the classic style because they know how to appreciate a skillful game. It doesn't matter to them if they get their asses handed to them for the first few weeks, because they know it will be all worth it once they become good. So in reality, it's the casualfags who are playing only for that hollow feeling of winning.

TL;DR Team Casual2fags are hypocrites and the cancer killing the industry.

Because /v/ is full of TF2 faggots. I grew up playing the classic TFC so I do prefer FF, but TF2 ain't too bad, I play it when I want some laid back fun and to chat with some bros. But when I'm going to play seriously I go play FF.

Wouldn't it be the other way around?
