    GEARS OF WAR GENERAL
    HEADSHOTTAN
    CURB STOMPAN
    CHAINSAWAN

Just finished reading the second Gears of War novel, "Jacinto's Remnant". I...I don't hate it.

Think of it like Gears of War 2.5. It focuses on what happens directly after they sink Jacinto and the COG's search to find somewhere safe for the citizens/army. Also, it focuses on background history about what actually happened with the Hammer of Dawn strikes that destroyed every other city leaving Jacinto as the only haven.

It's not a bad story, but Gears of War 3 will be some weird shit considering that all the Locust are considered extinct and they're biggest threats are considered to be Stranded.

They thought that they won the war with the Lightmass Bomb at the end of Gears 1 too. The Locust will be back for sure.

You gotta be kidding me right?

I like the actual gameplay of the games, but Christ almighty the story is just "blarg underground aliens are killing people go shoot them."

Yeah, but that's why I like the novels. They manage to flesh out the story and make it more than just
    "GRAHHH!"
    "ARGHHHH WHERE'S MY WHIFE!!!!!"
    "KILL GRUBS"

if you read into it, its a bit more in depth than that. Unfortunately, gamers today are all about "LOOK AT ME!! AH HAS A CHAINSAW BAYONET AND IMMA GUT THAT NIGGA!!" 30 year old ancient gamerfag here.

I would never forget those. But considering the story behind those is absent at best, I think it's a shame that the plots in newer games (granted some are tissue paper thin) get overlooked in an obscene manner. Many newer titles have relatively good storylines that people just skip to get back into the fight, and wen they are mentioned they are flamed for being...well...not there. Just because in most cases they were skipped. Mario, The Blue Bomber, and Street Fighter have no real storyline, but they are great games to say the least.

    Op.

I think I just love vidya novels in general, even though they are disgusting examples of writing. The story just always seems to be engrossing and it's like this massive nerd-on once you connect bits and pieces of the games to what is written on the page.

Not so much. the Halo books (save for The Flood) were pretty good. Aspho fields was a damn good read. It's a shame that we aren't seeing more decent authors doing this. However, if this were to happen, the bookstores would be deluged with shitty novels of WoW, Kingdomhearts, and side stories to Final Fantasy. What kills me is there hasn't been a Legend of Zelda novel. If the story is there, then run with it. If not, then let it go the way of Crash Bandicoot.

Yeah, I liked the Halo ones too even though the plotline now basically resembles 17 retards in a clusterfuck. With Aspho Fields and Gears in general though, it's like Epic have set themselves up for this massive saga but they only have one more game to wrap up all the remaining plot points and other bullshit and they've left all these really big details out. Like what exactly happened when Marcus deserted his post to go save his father, and how the fuck does his father know the Locust Queen?

There is that other one with those Spartans that were far way from reach during Fall of Reach. The cover art has a dude in a Mk6 with a space station in the background. Halo Cole Protocol, right?

No, Marcus found her by himself when his squad were looking for Imulsion Crystals for the Hammer, but that might have been what he was going to tell Marcus. But he died before he got to him so maybe it's just another plot fuckaround

Next topic: What the fuck is up with the New Hope research facility? Any one take a guess what the Sires are and why they even exist in a COG facility?

And as for knowing the Locust queen...

They talked about a peace...an alliance of sorts. But Humas were too hell-bent on immulsion, and power, and the Locust weren't about that and they saw human nature, so they decided to end it
