Oblivion.

Although it doesnt have as good a combat system or story than Morrowind, it excels over it in the rest of the categories. Also, it's more towards equality with slavery being abolished and beast races being able to use helms/boots.
Also, gotta love those sexy Dark Brotherhood outfits.

Awesome controls, fun, challenging gameplay that rewarded skill, and the ability to beat fully armored swat members into comas with a thin, lanky, teenage girl that can also handle SAWs for some reason.

Amazing amount of customization and variety. The music is amazing, and the game is incredibly relaxing to play. The depth in it is ridiculous; there are basically unlimited levels and movesets for various monsters.

Mother 3

Because it was the game I'd been waiting for. Something unique with an interesting but not so serious story that made me laugh (and, in two cases, cry). The battles were sometimes easy, sometimes hard, sometimes just challenging, and while everyone complains it felt dated, I personally thought the combo system added (and how you had time to react to save someone that was dying) was outstanding.

I played games before the 3D era, but I didn't really GET INTO them until then. mother 3 showed me that a game doesn't need that extra dimension to really be powerful.

Well, it may not be better looking, but without mods, Oblivion's system is just block + attack. Your stats don't even matter since everything is leveled too.

True, the dice system isn't exactly good, but at least skills modified something in Morrowind. In oblivion skills aren't as useful.

My dream game would be a Morrowind remake with Dark Messiah combat that is influenced by your attributes and skills.

I seem to be obsessed with trying to shoehorn DMC and NG like gameplay into every dream game right now so that's what I would pick for third person.

Oddworld, because it had original designs (pic related), great gameplay and story, twisted humour and action and was somewhat hard.
