Valve has made like 3 good games since they were created. Half Life 1, Half Life 2, Team Fortress 2 (inb4 >teamfortress >good game). The rest of the fun we got from their games is just because of mods.

Valve created the source engine, which is awesome, we got a lot of great mods like gmod, counterstrike: source, day of defeat: source, left4dead etc

They also created the half life 1 engine (modified Quake 2 engine.. whatever), which was awesome for modding with games like Sven Coop, Counter Strike, Day of Defeat, Natural Selection and many more.


My point is, Valve doesn't make any games, only good engines.

i played half life, hl2, hl2ep1 and ep2 and I must say, it was kind of boring Sure, headcrabs were annoying as hell, but you can't make those kinds of generalizations for all of us here on /b/.

Every company strives for profit. Valve just so happens to price their products reasonably. Look at Halo: ODST. Bungie wanted to release it at 40 bucks, but M$ insisted on hiking it up to full price because they can. The Orange box is 20 bucks. Left 4 Dead is 30 bucks. TF2 updates are absent from the console version....why? Because M$ allows for only one free update per title, and Valve is patiently waiting for all the kinks to be sorted out and release it all in one big patch for FREE. On top of that, the preorder bonus for L4D2 is 5 bucks off the purchase price....If their sole purpose was profit, none of the above would be as such. Will fans be pleased? Yes. Is Valve really as bad as you make it out to be? Not in the slightest.

the mod community only exists because valve doesnt keep their code locked up. They have mod tools, publicly available map editors, etc.
