The
thing is that matchup charts and tier lists aren't just tourneyfag
shit, tiers are real. You can't just go "tiers don't exist with enough
skills" because in the end, there is just some shit that is just
better. It's like in SF4, how Sagat is above Dan. It's a 7-3 matchup.
That is a broken matchup. Now, does that mean Dan vs Sagat is always a
Sagat win? No, if the Dan is more skilled he can bust out a win, but
what it means is that the Sagat has so much more to work with. So much
more, in fact, that if both players have the same level of competent
skill, the Sagat will win an overwhelming majority of the time.
There's
a reason Sagat is better than Dan, a reason Ryu is better than Ken,
etc. Every character has their tricks, but there is some stuff that
just IS.
That's what it's like with Tager. Have you seen a
really good Nu player fighting a really good Tager player? Tager's only
safe way to advance is to walk, and EVEN THAT is unsafe. Nu can launch
swords all day, and even guard break the Tager like that, from
fullscreen. Tager has to cross the screen either by walking half the
distance and using a move(jump C, sledge, 2D, whatever) or 2 moves. The
problem is if he sledges too early he eats a sword for massive damage
from fullscreen + Nu getting, minimum, 20% heat. If he sledges too late
the Nu can do fucking anything. Best possible scenario the Nu takes
damage/Tager is slightly closer. Worst case scenario Tager gets air
juggled for 5k damage helplessly. And a Nu that doesn't make
mistakes... cannot be advanced on. Hell, even up close Nu can C attack
Tager into some RC rape combo, or just barrier burst and reset the
whole match.
In before Mike Z. Yeah he's good, but yesterday he
also got raped by a Nu player who was worse than Goryus, and couldn't
do a damn thing. Tager's gameplay is like 90% mindgames, and that is
just sad because it's also an incredibly predictable character so all
the mindgames are guessing what your opponent will do. |
