I've been playing EU3 obsessively for a few weeks (thanks, /v/) so I don't remember the last game I beat.

Anyway, EU3 is a great game that needs more tactical elements, but the dev probably couldn't implement them so just left those parts of the game bare. The game is still extremely ambitious so it makes up for that. Learning curve is pretty huge.

Finished: Kingdom Hearts. Great concept, ok execution. The Disney characters within the words seem kind of lifeless, the story isn't very engaging and the platforming is fucking horrible but at least the worlds are faithful to the source and the original stuff i.e. Traverse Town I thought was awesome. But the combat and main gameplay is really fun and that's the best you can hope for out of a game. If I was going to complain about anything I'd probably say it too easy, and I really fucking hated that they reused that purple horn boss like 6 times, but overall, gg.

LOL this game. It would be kind of ok if the draw distance wasn't limited to a 2 ft radius. You can't see anything until you're right next to it and enemies will be shooting at your from the darkness before you can even know where they are. Also, it seems like they take too many hits to bring down. The music and atmosphere is kind of cool though.

Mass Effect: Good game. Pissed about Kaiden or Ashley dying - they were in my group from the start.

Replay value is present, if not enticing.
    Graphics are good.
Gameplay is fun - mix of run and gun and a tactical RPG.
Voice acting is pretty good - especially female shepard. Sounds like a woman, not a little girl (maybe not so good for most of the denizens of /v/).

    Last game I played?
Plants vs. Zombies - still enjoying it. Beat it pretty quick - minigames reduce repetiveness. Good game all in all.

Resident Evil 5 (xbox 360) Last I played and finished.

Played through once on normal diffuculty with AI partner:

Partner system is shit, she gets in the way of your shots, refuses to move to give herself a clear line of fire if she is behind you, wastes ammo by the shit ton (luckily there is lots), wastes health items, and is generally a fucking liability.

Item system: WHY THE FUCK AM I STORING A BULLET PROOF VEST IN MY INVENTORY, WHY CAN'T I WEAR IT?!? Preferred the old attache case system tbh.

Gameplay: Similar to RE4, bullshit "quicktime" events in cut scenes. More action shooter than survival horror.

Very brown looking game, none of the environments were very memorable, found the ship to be the most fun.

Overall quite an average shooter with a boring predictable story, nothing expressly wrong with it that breaks the game, just quite average.

Camera could get annoying at times, especially during platforming, but anyway, I liked the platforming. Flying in neverland was fucking awesome. Halloween town is the best level ever. Also, the ending was somewhat sad...

Excellent. Too much water, though. Half the fucking thing is water which means MORE water Pokemon (as if we don't have tons of those already). We need a game that takes place in mostly a volcano/jungle thing... so that we'd have lots of fires, mostly grass, lots of ice, some rock, and only SOME water Pokemon around the Island. Think Iceland but not THAT cold.

Beat: Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops

It's Metal Gear with Pokemon, but somehow not as good as the two should be. Fun, but I spent most of my time kidnapping Russian nurses for my big rape truck. Ashley Wood's art was fantastic as always, but it's not very satisfying replacement for cutscenes.

    Played: Red Alert 3

I do not get what the big stink about this game is outside of DRM, which is indeed shitty, but it's synonymous with EA at this point. Looks good even on the lowest settings, and I can't recall a time leather-clad Communist tits felt right being next to Tim Curry. There are a few things that irk me about the controls, but there's a lot about this game to love. The Allied missions being tough as shit isn't one of them, though. Enjoy having kamikaze pilots and balloon bombs spammed into your bass leaving cheesing the only option. Good going, Red Alert 3. Good going.

Outside of that, I've sunk hours into skirmishes alone.

Then after that mission I'm flying jets UNDERGROUND to take out this fortresses facilities...

just finished prototype an hour ago.

i give it a solid seven out of ten.
the story is presented in such a way that if you want to know more you can do a heap of extra shit and run around the city murdering people, and it keeps the repeditiveness that was assasins creed a bit more fresh.

the story itself was a little predictable, i think i would have enjoyed it more if i diddnt read the mercer/virus twist beforehand. even so, its presented well, and the voice acting delivers it well.

mercer plays a good antihero, and you really can get a feel for his plight, still what the fuck happened to his sister??

i think greene could have been fleshed out a bit more, i thought the hope stuff was interesting, maybe a flashback mission where you are in the town as greene? a good idea for an expansion i think.

the combo system has enough linking in it to reward the non button mashers amongst us, but holding down shift constantly started to hurt my pinkie finger. the difficulty scaled well, the supreme hunter fights we're fucking hard (my first fight with him went for about half an hour) and the last bout you have with him was fucking seriously difficult.

i was playing it on the hardest difficulty i could for my first game, so some of the missions we're a bit fucking hard for me. the game dosnt troll you though, and is quite generous with its checkpoint system. its good that i have a new game+ option, as i was not looking forward to trying a new game on the hardest difficulty with no powers.

    Tyrian 2000.

Mother of fuck, this is the best shooter ever. Controls are smooth, enemies have no lack of variety, boss fights are plenty bossy and the upgrades... Armor, shields, 25 weapons, not including side weapons, which you can upgrade with the money you collect in stages.
The art style is superb. Smooth, handmade sprites up the ass. God damn, I love that.
The music is also sublime. While not as easily rememeberable as say... The Mario overworld tune, god DAMN this shit's good. Complex, with varying moods. I love you, upgrade menu music.
The difficulty selection actually does something in this game. Easy mode's easy, hard mode's going to make you gnaw your hand off. Lord of the Game mode will consume your soul.
And it has co-op. God damn, this game's awesome. The only thing to complain about is not having the option of going through story mode with co-op, you're limited to the arcade mode, which is also jawsome.

This is everything that has ever been good about gaming ever.
11/10 because the weapon upgrades go all the way to 11.

Shit was pretty damn awesome. Finding a random enemy standing near a bottomeless pit and booting him off just never seemed to get old to me. I only kinda wish that there was a little more choice in weapons, since once I got the Earthflame sword I never had to use anything else, except the occasional bow use for the hell of it. Could possibly have been longer and the last boss could possibly have been a bit more challenging, since flurry of blows makes fighting most of the boss fights (Arantir, Liches, Aratrok) pretty simple. With that said, the Source Engine does the game justice and the voice acting is at least mostly bearable, as opposed to the downright offensive to the ears shit that most games get. 8/10

After a few years of one of my friends bugging me to play it, I finally got around to getting it and damn was I happy that I did. For a game it's size (something like ~900kbs for the game and ~500kbs for the translation) it ends up being more entertaining than a lot of larger and more popular games. The plot itself is nothing incredible, but not stupid enough to turn you off the game and if you enjoy metroidvania style sidescroller item hunting then this game is probably for you. This all plus the various optional hard modes make it a game you'll enjoy more than once. If only I could find a way to get rid of the goddamn music. 9/10

    Wolfenstein
    8/10

The game is pretty good, yes, that's not saying much, decent fps games are a dime a dozen these days. and wolfenstein doesn't do much to stand out from the crowd. But it does do a few things. The shooting and controls feel very tight. One of the smoothest I've seen. The weapon upgrade system is fun, it really shows how the levels are designed so that you can tackle the same obstacle many ways. Wanna run through the entire game as a sniper? Fine, put most of your resources towards your sniper rifle, hang back and pick off heads. The semi free roam city works well too. why? because it's small. saying it's like gta is not accurate, it's more like the city in Thief. but more intergrated with the story, as you progress the city will change drastically as shit blows up, more elite troops move in, and as the resistance retakes the city. entire sections will eventually become leveled under artillery fire. you can see the story line having an effect. and as for the story? nothing special, what did you expect? but i'm not too concerned. I also like the constant increase in enemy difficulty, the stealth assassins are hell.

    cont...
downsides? I don't like the viel too much. it's very useful in the game, too useful. you will be in veil mode, 80% of the time. the graphics in the game are pretty good, not amazing, but still good. but you wont see most of it since you're running around in neon mode all the time. Regenerating health is back, like in Call of Duty 4, it's not the best system, but it works well with the games free roam system. I just wish they would think of something better. But turn off that auto aim console shit and crank up the difficulty and the game is just as challenging as anything else. finally there's a slew of awesome super weapons, unfortunatly as usual they are too strong to be used as your primary weapon for the entire game, the developers have forced a limitation on their use by only providing small amounts of ammo for them, thus forcing you to keep the awesome weapons packed away for the boss fights leaving you to use the kar and mp43 for the duration of the game. yes this is standard procedure, but I still hate it. why can't you just tone down the particle cannon or tesla gun so that it's not game breaking, but rather a valid alterinitave to the mp43 with pros and cons, then I could actually make a decision as to which gun I want to main and upgrade? Currently putting your money into anything other than the mp43 and kar is stupid. I don't care if the Tesla gun is weaker, if that allows me to use it for the duration of the game, tone it down and give me tons of ammo. this has always been a problem since the bfg9000 in doom.

Actually, yes they did. Maybe not as modern as the ones today, but the first fps game was a maze shooter in '73, it was called Maze War. The top down shooters you're talking about are shoot 'em ups, or 'shmups', not first person shooters. When they were popular, people usually referred to them as top down shooters or shmups or by a brand name. When shooters really got popular in the 90s, shooter was synonymous with an fps game.

"Tactical Espionage Action", there's nothing tactical about this. Fuck this shit is broken. You know in MGS2, how you would sneak up on people and steal their shit while their hands were reaching for the sky? Well MGS3 is a big FUCK YOU from Kojima-san himself. Dont even bother sneaking up on people, they can hear you from miles away. Oh, and sneaking in the jungle with no radar and camera pointing right down at you and nothing else? Good luck with that. Not to mention boss fights, FFFFFFFFF. So you managed to get that sucker in your scopes, but what's that? The enemy is vulnerable to one shot only, and immune to the rest? WHAT THE FUCK?! Then the story... if you were expecting intriguing conspiracy stories, sure you got it to some extent, a half-assed one. But if you were expecting Dungeons and Dragons-shit, zombie ghosts attacking you, burning faces faces flying after you, bees turning into weapons and furious dick-fondling, this is your lucky day faggot!

Not gonna bother with a score, but if you want some more insight in the MGS-saga, go for it. Otherwise, there's no good incentive for you too play this. Get MGS2 instead.

The puzzels were well done and never came off as random, even if I found myself stuck at times. The jokes in the early episodes were hit-or-miss, but became hillarious as I continued to play. Valkyria Chronicles: 9.5/10, this is easily one of the best games I've ever played. The story is amazing, the gameplay is amazing, everything is amazing. There were a couple of small problems I had with it, i.e. you couldn't properly cover behind pretty much anything but trenches and chest-high sandbags, and you couldn't actually see the graves of characters who had died under your command in the graveyardEVEN ISARA GODDAMNIT, which just pissed me right the fuck off, considering it ACTUALLY SAID YOU COULD SEE THE GRAVES OF YOUR FALLEN COMRADES. But other than that, yeah, fantastic game.

Persona 4: 9.5/10, another absolutely fantastic game. It balances the combat and real-world excellently, allowing you to really pick and choose what you want to do and how you want to do it. While some of the social links are bleh (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, SAKI'S BROTHER), for the most part I really enjoyed my time in the real world. I also enjoyed the time spent in the TV world as well. The difficulty level of the combat really required you to strategize about what you were going to do and how you were going to manage your party. Overall, it's a great game, and better than P3, in my opinion.

    Okay voice acting
    Atmosphere went out the window
Shitty combat system, dodgy dodging, camera gets in the way

    Last game I finished: Prototype
Though I know about all the Prototype vs InFamous shit, I haven't had a chance to play InFamous. Prototype was extremely fun to me, even though the difficulty curve was fairly low.

The controls were responsive and the graphics flowed well, lending you a great feeling of running around the city with badass superpowers.

Adding an rpg-type buying element really gave you the ability to customize your character the way you liked it, though near they end they basically THREW points at you in order to max you out for the end fight. I have some qualms with this because making desicions about what you would like to do would carry a bit more weight if it was more difficult to gain points.

The story unfolds in a linear, mission driven fashion, much like the GTA games it borrows it's sandbox-like feel for, but the "web of intrigue" feature allows you to peice parts of the story together as you go. It can be a bit complicated but it also can give you an interesting periphery of the overall story too.

The fighting can get fairly repetative, this is most noticable near the middle and end of the game when you have discovered your favorite attacks and pretty much only use those. While the eye candy is great, watching blood spray and explosions, I feel it could have used a bit more variety.

Overall I'd give Prototype a 7 out of 10, it was a solid game with good graphics and fun gameplay, but the story was fairly basic, the combat could get boring, and the skill system wasn't as rich as it should have been.

What can I say, I got it so I can play with my friends online for fun. This is going to be short because everything that can be said about it already has probably.

It has good graphics, nothing special, nothing bad.

It has solid gameplay, It's a fps done just like it's supposed to, not much innovation, but nothing really wrong.

For a "space epic" the story seemed bland to me.

The thing that interests me the most about Halo 3 is the multiplayer though, I feel that you can actually consider it a feature of the game that there's always going to be someone online to play against, even if they are going to be annoying assholes that complain all game.

I'd give Halo 3 a 6 out of 10, It doesn't innovate in an industry full of fps games, but it also doesn't do anything wrong, other than being on a console.

Monkey Island Episode 1: Really enjoyed it. Felt like they really kept with the humor of the franchise, and managed to make 3D look good as opposed to the eye travesty that was 4. Wish they'd improve on the controls a bit though - simple point and click for movement is all that's necessary IMO, and the three-choice coin for actions from Curse of Monkey Island should have been implemented.

Man... It's been a while since I've actually finished a game.

    Finished! Shadow of the Colossus:
I picked this game up very, very late. But it's one of the best games I have ever played. The gameplay isn't exactly complicated, and there are absolutely no gimics to keep things exciting. But the entire game wreaks of epicness. Fighting the Colossus is something you will never forget. For each you have to use your wits to try and figure out how to kill the monsters. And once you actually beat it you are rewarded with a story that is quite simple but very satisfying. I'd give this game a 10.

As for the last game I played... Morrowind.
Morrowind is probably my favorite game of all time. I don't really feel like writing anything about it, though.

Meh. The story is good so far, however, the in-game dictionary actually contains spoilers in the plot. Yeah, if you actually read through all of it, it tells you parts of the plot you AREN'T SUPPOSED TO KNOW YET, meaning you have to give up on getting immersed in the lore of the game, or risk being bored to tears when something happens to the main character that you already know is going to happen. The invention system is retarded. I seriously regret saving after entering the shop. And worst part is, the Battle System.

First, Battle Trophies? Why am I wasting so much god damned memory on this shit? It would be different if they were skill based, but half of them are completely luck driven, or inane to have in the first place. Like, there's one for doing 777 damage. How the hell am I supposed to do that on purpose? Or, win 10 solo battles. Well, shit, that'd be difficult, if they didn't force you to go solo for the first 5 hours of the game, making this trophy impossible to miss unless you avoid EVERYTHING. And why do enemies get back attacks, but I don't get jack shit?

For an action-rpg, the battles sure are retarded. I absolutely LOVE when every single one of my attacks knocks the enemy down, making them invincible until they get back up. Do I get the same courtesy? Of course not, don't be silly. This wouldn't be so bad, if they didn't have a bar limiting my attacks I can make. So now not only am I swinging at the enemy and missing, I'm also wasting my Fury. Also, Flying enemies, and low to the ground enemies, are complete bullshit, because you can't fucking hit them half the time. And another thing, Mr. Action R.P.G! Why the hell do you have to LOCK IN all of my fucking commands? I hit attack, you attack in the general direction of the enemy, but I can't re-aim you, so literally, if the enemy is waddling any any direction other than right at me, WHOOSH, there goes a shit ton of my Fury. Used an item on the wrong person? FUCK, CANCEL CANCEL, WHY THE FUCK AREN'T YOU CANCELING oh you goddamn sunnovabitch.

The Bonus Battle Gauge doesn't make any sense. I still don't understand why it breaks. I'll take like 100 attacks from a super tough boss, and it'll still be whole. I'll take like 2 attacks from a porcupine, and it'll break in half. What the fuck.

Why the hell am I still playing this?

Very fun game. It had a lot more to it than I expected it to. Items became easy to find by level 20, but it didn't affect the fun of busting into a room and headshotting 7 bros in a row. I told myself that it didn't seem to have a lot of replay value and that I would probably give it a break for a while after beating it at 100% items yesterday. Plants Vs Zombies: A fun little distraction from time to time with a nice sense of humor. Endgame content is kinda lacking. For something made by a casual company it's a damn fine game.

Breath of Fire - Dragon Quarter: A neat semi-tactical JRPG, you have action points every time your turn comes up, which you then use for movement and abilities. You can build up combos which strengthen further attacks, and the game kinda demands replays as the main character, ever Ryu, can die a final death from what is basically Dragon Cancer, which the player can decide to agitate, accelerate, and utilize for extraordinarily strong abilities. The story's nice and innocent too, if executed in a grimdark manner. Nina, a little bird girl, has bad lungs, in the cold, polluted underground environment of the game, the air will kill her, so Ryu seeks to get her up to the surface.
