...but yes. SH and survival horror in general needs help. Penumbra, Afraid Of Monsters... these and couple more that I consider to be only GOOD horrors in the past few years. Funniest thing is that they all were either mods or made by small (indie) groups.

Get rid of action orientated game play, and make player feel threated and uneasy constantly something he can't see but at least thinks is in there. Helpless, disturbing atmosphere and ambiance were something that made old Silent Hills and many other small horrors good and working. Why not to use these ingredients then?

I hope and think Remedy's Alan Wake will do this right.

IMO, dead space held onto the suspense and was not quite as predictable as other horror games. Bodies that were lying on the ground would hardly ever get up to attack you most of the time, giving you an "Its safe" feeling and gets jumps going on.

Pyramid Head, I entirely agree. The direction the genre is going in is completely and utterly unacceptable and needs to be corrected before it is too late. I wholeheartedly thank you for taking the time out of your busy work day to once again bring this to my attention, as sometimes we forget before action is taken.

Resident Evil nowdays has little-to-no horror atmosphere such as resident evil 2 and 3, and Silent hill is missing the unsettling things that made Silent Hill 3 pant shitting. The unsettling atmosphere, sounds, etc, it's missing from modern horror games except for a select few.
