Kids today don't appreciate technology. Even when I was 15 and I first learned about vinyl, I thought it was the shit.

    Wow, I'm impressed... seriously...
When I was a kid I listened to cassettes in the car and to me they were eternal, they just never ended. And when I thought wow, that was a long time, it was just one side.
On the other hand I just don't understand the point of having hundreds of hours of music on your iPod, do people listen to all that? I have colleagues with 160GB iPods completely full with metal. I guess this kind of technology just trascends my understanding.
Stupid kid though, for not appreciating gone by technology, just because something is obsolete doesn't mean it shouldn't get its merit for having been the vanguard of technologhy once.

I still own a couple walkmens and a couple discmans. And a Game and Watch.

My kids are going to have to earn current technology gifts by appreciating old technology.

Over time, yes. I only have about 700-800 songs on my MP3 player right now, but I'm not a huge music buff and have trouble finding things I like. If you listen to your MP3 player on a regular basis (I listen to it at work, on the bus, when I go for walks and in my 360), you'll eventually listen through every song on it and it's always nice to have as much stuff as possible so you don't hear the same songs over and over.

Never had a cassette Walkman, but I had a CD Walkman and it was fucking awesome. I still have it in my room, and the thing still works. I'd just need t replace the batteries and it would whir right to life.

Put 1000 songs on your iPod

It's more convenient for me. I don't like having to swap music when I want to listen to something new, and I tend to make a lot of playlists that include a bunch of genres. I only limit the stuff I have to stuff I listen to on a regular basis anyway (the rest is thrown onto a backup drive).

    >Campbell was still disappointed it could only hold a small fraction of what an iPod can.
Does that kid even realize that record labels still sell millions upon millions of CDs each year?

A CD only holds a small fraction of what an iPod can, but they're still alive and kicking.

He doesn't understand that people don't just buy one tape/CD, they buy several to match all of their different tastes.

That's not just a matter of being too young to understand such an old product. That's simply a matter of being fucking dense.
