Other TF2 thread died! It was about some general tips, tricks, hints, etc etc. Figured why not start up another.

The other one was filled with a lot of extremely basic stuff, things you could easily learn by just reading the patch notes. Now if that kind of stuff is actually helping some of you out then lets keep at it, but hopefully this thread can have some more advanced things as opposed to: "Friendly Pyros can set their team mates arrows on fire giving them fire arrows."

So down to the awesome tips and whatever. Let's discuss whatever the fuck we want about TF2 because let's face it, the game is fucking fun.
    >In regards to engineers guns hurting them
There are extremely rare situations it pisses me off, but I'm going to have to say it should be on. It lets other classes try and be really smart and fuck you over with your own gun and it makes engineers have to pay attention to something. I don't think it's such a negative towards the class that it is making them significantly weaker than they should be.

All classes explosives hurt themselves even though there is no friendly fire. I don't think the engineer is getting screwed over or anything.

    >Replying to discussion about Pryos sex
You know let's just not talk about whether Pyro is male or female. I think Pyro has some faggy little purse in their locker in the respawns of some maps. Then you've got that huge bulge in their pants though. They kind of "mmph" in a deeper ton. I think I've heard the Pyro get talked about that ist could be a female and that it also could be a male, both by Valve I mean.

I guess people will debate and discuss what they want to discuss however it just seems pointless and annoying. You just can't prove either side incorrect because there is no answer. Let's save the discussion for real tactics and what not. The speculation of the Pyro and people coming in and 'correcting' others when they say it's a he or whatever is annoying.

Your obvious tip when I had just said let's not say basic shit ya' know, I see what ya did there. Still boring and unfunny. So let's hear some real tips if you know any :)

    >Pyro General Discussion
If anything the regular flamethrower is the better weapon. There's just more you can do with it and the more flexible your class the better. Backburner pyros are pretty much supposed to ambush and that's it, a regular flamethrower can do that, just not as well and can also do a lot of different things depending on the situation. Now this is about my 18th time saying it, but the Backburner is still useful to throw into the mix somtimes because it simply melts a team a lot faster than the regular flamer.

If you're looking to actually get some reward for spending time playing Pyro, you know to work on some skills and improve them, play with the air blast thrower. It will let you learn and improve a bunch of ways. If you can play as a good Pyro with regular thrower you will be able to play with Backburner, just not vice versa.

Both players should learn how to ambush the other team, but the Backburner user won't have all the practice with the air blast.

When ever I join a server I am forced to join the team that is down one man, which is usually blue. The reason why blu was down a man is because he quit when he realized his team was shit and was being demolished by red. Then I have a choice:
    1) Stick around and lose miserably
    2) Jump out and look for a better server

Also, I hate reserve slots. What's the point? All they do is fuck up my scan for servers that aren't full.
If you see a server that says 30/32 or 26/28, skip right past them because they are already full. And there's going to be alot of them.

Never, ever, start playing the game as a spy. Start with something simple and easy, like pyro, soldier, engineer, or demoman. The abundance of health and firepower will make for an enjoyable experience your first time through. As you get to learn the maps and the game's mechanics, you will wander over to the more advanced classes. Whatever anyone says, don't start as a medic.

Reserved slots are for little fags or something to make sure they can get into their little faggy pub that is the only place they ever play and build up a little faggy community of friends or something. I don't get it either.

It's fucking annoying when a server isn't full apparently 28/30, but you can't fucking join because the two slots are listed as reserve.

Not to fucking mention if you're playing a game and some douche with a reserve slot rolls up into the server and you get fucking booted out of no where for em.

Also, beware of servers with team switch. While in theory, team switch prevents the match from being imbalanced, you will find that the only times team switching occurs is after you blast a hole in the enemy defense, or right before the match ends in your favor. Watch your once-teammates roll right through you with no discretion afterward.
    >> Anonymous 06/19/09(Fri)21:29 No.33109203
Beware of servers tagged as newbie friendly or newbies only. These are always full of expert or Professional players with something to prove hoping to get some easy kills. This of course, leads to neck-and-neck matches with skilled players on both teams fighting for their lives and wondering why the enemy team isn't letting them spawn camp.

If you're a pyro and are spy checking, be sure to check around snipers too.

Best place to hide stickies is above doors. Hard to notice and if an uppity pyro tries to get them they'll just fall on him.

As a soldier always try to aim your rockets so they hit the ground at some point. Splash damage is better than no damage.

A good strategy for engineers setting up is to stand directly behind your sentry, turn around, and drop the dispenser. Stay crouched during skirmishes and spies will have some trouble reaching you while you endlessly repair your shit

Flaregun is great for anything save pyros. They annoy people at long range (especially snipers since it can mess with their aiming) and generally most people panic when they're on fire.

The engineer strategy only works if the dispenser you put up behind you is flush with a wall or the enemy has stupid spies. A more skilled spy will duck behind the dispenser let the sentry kill the engineer. To prevent this from happening, build your dispenser with no gap between it and the sentry gun and back up into a wall. Put yourself in the corner and watch enemy spies stab you unsuccessfully.

Medics: Heal everyone, constantly, don't stick to one person. Always be on the move and always look around, Your med gun means you dont have to be facing forward while you heal someone. When you unlock the Dead Ringer as a Spy, it should be your new best friend.

    1. Disguise as a teammate when you spawn.
    2. Run toward the objective with the Dead Ringer activated
    3. If you get "killed", you go invisible, so now it's time to disguise as the enemy and get ready to sap/backstab.
    4. If you "survive", then help your team with the objective, if you get killed while doing that, then go to step 3. You can still do your objective and hold a disguise of a teammate. So push the cart, stand on the point, whatever.

That is another way for a spy to be credit to team.
    >> Anonymous 06/19/09(Fri)21:57 No.33110365
Shotgun lets you kill enemy W+M1 pyros without taking a single point of damage. It lets you kill soldiers without them blowing both of you up. It lets you do something to that goddamn scout that is dancing around your flames and laughing. It helps you finish off that fucking blutsauger medic who thinks he made it to safety.

Flare gun annoys everyone. It might make a sniper run to get a health kit.

If you want to play defense, consider switching to Pyro and hanging out with an Engineer.

    * Dispenser will keep you fueled up.

    * If a flame so much as touches a cloaked or disguised spy, he will be revealed and the sentry gun will go to town.

    * If a Spy does get by and start sapping stuff, your flames give fantastic cover for the Engineer to repair his stuff without worrying so much about a backstab.

    * If a Soldier or Demoman starts firing explosives at the equipment, air blast as much of it away as you can.

    * If an Uber pair tries to break in, try to separate the link with an air blast. If that's not practical, you can at least try to push them around and away to waste their Uber time.

Pyros with a flaregun are credit to team! When you spawn, you should have your flaregun out. Like some others have said in this thread, being set on fire makes people panic. Uh, no. A sentry will only fire upon a Spy when he drops his disguise. However, the sentry will continue to fire even if he re-disguises, and the only way to get out of it is to get out of its range of vision. This includes cloaking.

    Shotgun = short/medium range.
    Flamethrower = short range.
What if the guy runs while on fire? Not much you can do, shotgun does shitty damage if he's too far, obviously.
Flaregun is awesome for minicritting retreating enemies that are on fire. It was already pretty good before the mini crit thing, now i'm getting a lot of kills with it.
Also setting snipers and other people on fire from afar really helps.
Flamethrower + Flare + Axtinguisher = PRO setup.

Flareguns are terrible. Say you have a burning enemy and he is getting away, the shotgun is far more useful in this situation than the shitty slow flaregun.

And so what if get other people on fire, they'll just run to a health kit or a medic and it does so little damage to a heavy.

A teleporter, if you're not using it to move your team about for one reason or another, can also be a great early warning system for an Engineer. Drop the entrance or exit on the way to the place your sentry is covering. Few enemies can resist destroying an unguarded bit of Engy equipment. Then you know who is on the way and how to prep for them.

This right here, if you wanted to pick enemies off at a distance, use your rifle. Huntsman is designed to let you get in medium range, preferably when your team is on the final cap (on either red or blu, really) and just launch arrows in their general direction. You don't even need to anticipate and shoot, just shooting into the mob will guarantee a kill.

More popular pubs that aren't listed as 'noob' servers usually have some shitty fast respawn or something, which is ironic since fast respawn is for noobs.

That's not nice. Why are you saying that?

    >the upgrades (backburner and flare pistol) are pretty much fucking useless
Going to have to disagree with ya there fellow. Now I would like to be able to blindly advocate use of the air blasting thrower only so that we can actually get some skilled fucking pyros, but unfortunately the backburner has superior melting skills when ambushing from behind.

Now, what you need to do is pick up the flare gun. The flare gun is much more awesome. It was pretty decent before hand, but now with the mini crits it does when the personally is already set on fire it is perhaps very close, if not, a DIRECT UPGRADE. Yea I said it! It's just really good what not.

On 2fort as an engi, set up teleporters in known spy hiding places as sap bait. You lose nothing of value while being alerted to the presence of a spy.
