ITT: Games that are special to you

I know people have shitted on this game but I'm not here to say it's the best game ever, that's just a lie, it has it's flaws. But the reason that I love FF7 was because of that time period. Back in 1997, I was in elementary school and my uncle would always stop by to have me watch him play FF7. I just remembered the great battles and how he finished Sephiroth with a Limit Break that was slicing and dicing him hundreds of times. I forgot the name but the move took out Sephiroth and he won the game. We all threw a fucking party over it and ordered Imo's pizza. I got to even miss school because of it. I'm still disappointed that they made the series faggy with that "Advent Children" shit and some of the other sequels but I still play FF7 to relive those moments in the past.

    Quest 64.

    I saw the commercials.

    I wanted it.

I got it for my birthday.

It was harder than I expected, trying to balance four elements. Eventually I just stuck with Earth and Water, and things turned out much better.

I remember the pain of Solvaring's Quartz Blast, since you had to be close for Water Pillar Lv2.

I remember slogging all the way through Cull Hazard(those dragons ;_;) and coming upon my favorite city in the game, Normoon. I remember the forest, I remember Zelse... and I certainly recall getting hit by Wind Horizon and losing 60 HP.

The rage involved in the Blue Cave, especially since I didn't know Brian turned automatically to face the direction he was before combat started after it's over... I remember putting some points into Fire for Nepty, and just spamming Magma Rock from afar.

They're all really strong memories to me.

I know the graphics weren't good and the game was mostly incomplete.

But I admired it. I also admired Shannon, who did a heel-face-turn and threatened to kill your father unless you killed King Beigis and opened Mammon's Dimension.

    I'll keep on loving it.

IN the summer, I woul spend a month in a house with no TV.
Some years after we began vacationing there, I got a Game Boy, and eventually Link's Awakening. Every summer from then on, I would erase last year's complete file (all hearts, 2nd level sword) and begin anew.
    It was magical.

My fucking god, for 3 years I had a 6 or 7 friends and my sister play this shit every weekend. It never got old and we had a blast, whether if it was after going to the movies, before going to the park, whatever.

Definitely fond memories of it. Oh and of SMB3 since I had a neighbor who'd come to play everyday. Damn, I'm just realizing how much free time kids have and I sort of miss it.

Grim Fandango. I played that for about three years, I know the entire story by heart. Some of my favorite memories as a young teen were of me sitting in my room with my only friend, who eventually became my nerdy anti-social girlfriend, and playing Grim Fandango. That game brought us together, and now we're still dating years later.

I know it's but a year old, but goddamn, I played that game with my bro from start to finish completely stoned out of our minds, it was just such a solid, thrilling, and endearing experience.
Keep in mind we would spend like 20 minutes in every hallway and room, soaking in all the detail, all the bodies, all the writing on the walls, so much death, and we would constantly wander and imagine how each body we came across met its doom.

    A Link to the Past.

My mom had been playing it for a long time. I would sometimes come in and watch her play, she was pretty good. I remember she made it up to one of the later dungeons with the help of a guide we found while browsing around in Borders. Yes, back then, there was no gamefaqs, or at least I had never heard of it; I doubt we even had a computer at that point anyway. Nintendo Power offered little insight. So we stumbled across a book that gave hints for SNES games and she got past a part that she had been stuck on for a long time. But then disaster struck. I decided to try playing the game myself. But in my foolish youth I somehow ended up deleting her save file, and starting a new game over it. When she realized what had happened she was so sad. I felt terrible when I realized what I did. It ended up being the final blow that made her give up video games. I promised myself I would beat the game in her place. I was so young I had to learn everything about the game by trial and error, it took me months to finally complete it. But as a result, I know the entire game by heart and can beat it in just a few hours.

I loved playing Wurm Online with /v/ earlier this year. That was such an experience. Mining with the bros, exploring that huge game world, and even though I was lost, confused, and starving I still had so much fun in that game. I remember I was separated from the initial /v/ group that was going to the town, and I was walking down a path in the game completely lost, and a scorpion attacks me. Suddenly as I'm trying to run away, I see "GET HIM BROS!" start spamming in the chat log as three people run out of the forest and attack the scorpion.

Of course they were all nearly killed, but it was funny to see two of them run away as the third was limping after them, his legs broken from the scorpion.

I know what you mean, OP.
It's 1999, and I'm a kid with short hair. I'm in Swansea with my parents one day, and we decide to go into Toys R Us to look at the N64 games.
I find a small crowd of people, and wonder what they're doing. Slaloming between their legs, I happen across...this sight.
This image is one that will stay with me forever - Sonic the Hedgehog, in glorious 3D, running away from a giant killer whale. The Dreamcast whirred happily in its pod, and after much waiting I eventually got a go.
My first hands-on experience of Sonic Adventure was of moving around Station Square (Speed Highway section) as Knuckles, finding emerald shards, and since, it's been possibly my favourite game ever. The Orange Box and The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask stand alongside it proudly in my mind.

I remember renting the original Sega genesis with my dad and going home to play some Madden football. Yeah we rented the console a couple of times. Shit was cash. I always loved when a guy got hurt and the ambulance came out and ran everyone over.

I'm probably the only person who thinks this, but I was completely obsessed with Ultima: Exodus for the NES. It was one of the first RPGs I ever played, and I thought the format was very innovative at the time. Now, I think I would just be scared off by how tedious it was.

Still, for the time it was a pretty kick ass RPG.
