Which brings us on to badges. What if pokemon owners who don't battle gym leaders and seek badges want to go anywhere? You supposedly can't use Cut, Surf or Fly outside of a battle unless you have the right badge.

Since we're on the topic of life in the pokemon world, I always found it odd how every single city seems to be almost completely cut off from the rest of the world, with (sometimes) the exception of neightbouring towns. If you want to get somewhere, you have to walk. There's nearly no infrastructure, apart from a few trains and ferries.
