Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines appreciation topic!

I finished this game last year and it is up there with my favourite games of all times; played it with the unofficial patch installed so I had no real issues with bugs either. As a result, pretty much everything about this game is perfect; the dark atmosphere, decrepit locations and excellent role playing, hell even the final part of the game I had no issue with which is what many point out when they have criticisms about the game. I'd replay through it but a friend of mine has the discs at the moment, hence I'm content to listen to the soundtrack.

Any other remaining fans on board?

awesome fun dialogue, because of that all the characters and interaction seemed a lot more real and entertaining.
Bethesda could take some hints from that, their npc dialogue usually bores me to tears.

    I love this game.

Played as gangrel, malk, and nos completely at some point or another. It really captures the bleak atmosphere of the WOD as well as the total political clusterfuck in V:tM.

If Troika had ever got their shit together and fixed more bugs before releasing their games, they'd still be around.

This game has some amazing facial animations. Shit is almost 6 years old now and the faces look better than Fallout 3 and half of the other games coming out now.

I love the face Damsel makes when she starts yelling at you, or that smirk Jeanette always does.

I uninstalled it when I got to the Society of Leopold hideout.

There was nothing left to do really.... I tried playing as a Tremere, but still ended up as a gunsman. That and I was pretty upset when I realized I couldn't finish the Nosferatu sidequest where you send him those items to unlock posters in your sanctuary because the item was on a map I couldn't get to anymore.

Guns suck in this game, you should try out melee.

Guns are really only good for humans, and as tremere you can instakill humans with mass suicide or blood boil so there really isn't a point to that.

The best atmosphere in a crpg ever, except for Torment.

Also one of the best and most unique NPCs (again, Torment is superior) with fucking great face animations.

Nice storyline, but it's just worth playing for the atmosphere. It's also probably the best adaptation of a pen-and-paper RPG, since it retains everything that made Vampire Vampire.

Oh, and I played with a Malkavian. Loved how insanity changed every dialogue in the gaem.

Guns end up very effective if you have the stats for them. You'll still probably end up stealth + intermittent melee instakill for the two dull as fuck dungeons at the end, though.

    >>30501542
You were paying attention in Hollywood? All the factions are dicks. It's old World of Darkness - everyone's got at least two agendas they're not telling you about, and you're everyone's bitch. Dovetails handily with standard CRPG "everyone's a quest dispenser" structure, which is part of why it can work.

Supernaturals get a lot damage from weapons with a high "Lethal" value. Which applies to most late game weapons, mostly guns.

Like Jack told you in the tutorial: "A shotgun blast to the head? Now THIS is serious!" or something in that vein.

True, the faction to me seemed more like the lesser of evils than the other; the Camarilla I weren't a great fan of for various reasons which I forget now, the Kuei-jin had a rather silly ideology behind them (at least I thought so) and I wasn't going to side with La Croix after all the shit he pulled. I could have gone with the personal ending, but preferred instead to take some time to pick a side, and at least the anarchs had an ideology which I could agree with more than the others in the context of the setting.

There really isn't a good choice between Anarchs and Camarilla. The Anarchs sound good until you keep hearing about all the thin bloods breaking the masquerade in LA. And the Camarilla sound bad until you realize that the only real problem with it is middle management types like Lacroix who would double-cross everyone for a shot at absolute power.

I wish there had been a Sabbat ending though. It would have made a lot more sense than siding with the Kuei-jin.

IIRC correctly, you got to talk with Strauss after getting the quest, who then will tell you to kill it.

You can still have it side with Issac though, and lie to Strauss about it. I also think you need to do some other stuff for him before he offers you the haven.

Ever since this became flavour of the month again I've been meaning to replay it.

Well, you should be fine even if you convinced it to side with the Anarchs....but, if you didn't talk to Strauss about creating the Gargoyle after talking to Issac and before dealing with it, you might be SOL.

You might try talking to Strauss and checking out the topics for anything concerning gargoyles - also, there's a book in one of the side studies in the chantry called 'Thurmaturgical Creatures' that may or may not be required for the topic to come up. If all else fails, just reload from an earlier save and make sure to talk to Strauss before dealing with the gargoyle.

The limitation of only 3 points in physical attributes is trivial since blood buff raises your phys by 2 and is cheap and long lasting. The Tremere Blood Armor (level 3 Thaumaturgy) makes you almost indestructible. Enjoy being a melee killing machine AND having magic spells, AND high social.

The graveyard is virtually impossible unless you have celerity. You can also use auspex to see the zombie auras. Red auras need to be taken out pronto, green ones are moderate threats, and blue ones you can ignore. Head shots dismantle them instantly, but they're impossible to get unless you have high gun skill, which basically renders the quest reward useless.

You can get headshots with melee weapons sometimes if you aim the melee weapon slightly above the zombies' heads.

Also, you can run as soon as the quest begins and hide behind that tomb where the Warrens come from. If you do it at the right place, only 2 or 3 zombies will respawn, and they'll come after you, not the gate. If you do it wrong, you might need to leave like 30 seconds earlier to fight a few ones before they destroy the gates.

That quest was programmed some wrong way, and because of that, the most zombies you killed, the faster they respawned. That made it impossible to win, except if you left the quest for a later time when you had nice shooting and a Steyr Aug or Level 5 Celerity, because if you didn't kill them they would break the gates, but if you did, they'd respawn so quickly you wouldn't be able to get to the other gate before it getting destroyed.
