Just because you're a "HARDCORE" gamer..doesn't mean you spend hours upon hours of gaming. ANYONE can do that. Yes..even CAUSAL gamers do that.
And being a hardcore gamer doesn't mean you have no life either.
What it means to be a hardcore gamer is what kind of games you play.

When it comes to multiplayer games. Hardcore gamers will play games that take skill, and that actually takes practice to get good at. Like Unreal Tournament 2004, and Quake 3.

When it comes to single player games, hardcore gamers play games that offer quality, substance, and intelligence in their games.

But for casual gamers, they'll play games that are simple, and easy.

The games you decide to play reflects the kind of gamer you are. You play Halo 3 and Gears of War?? And you think its the best ever??? Well..you're casual gamer..Thats cool no problem..
But before you accept that fact..think about what that means.

Games like Halo, Gears of War, Mass Effect, and Bioshock are games that are dumbed down. Think about it.. Why are they dumbed down? Because most of you "casuals" are too stupid to play games that offer more innovation and challenge.

Because of you "Casuals" ..majority of games now are so simple minded, that challenge doesn't even exist in games.

Good job guys..im proud of you

You're wrong from the first sentence.

    Casual gamers play games casually.

For hardcore gamers, gaming is more than a mere hobby, it's more like their whole life.

    Fuck you and sage.

Needs more Demon's Souls in the hardcore tier. Funny how a friend of mine totally loved Ninja Blade but when he got Demon's Souls from my recommendation he was like OMG FUCK THIS GAME

Also this explains why I felt like HURR DURR playing R6Vegas or the most recent Prince of Persia.

Hardcore and casual have nothing to do with skill, those only have to do with time and commitment.

    Ridiculous thread.

"Casual" works well for its primary function: To insult people whom you disagree with. For any other purpose, it's very much lacking.

Try this: Whenever you are tempted to use the term "hardcore" or "casual" in describing a game or a gamer, think for just a moment (PLEASE) and come up with a term that ACTUALLY HAS A MEANING. You will be more clear, people will understand you, and threads won't be derailed.

For instance: Don't say: "Halo is casual, Dur"
Say: "Halo is derivative." or "Halo has simple gameplay" or, even, what you really mean, "Halo is popular."

/v/ will be a much better place if you follow this guideline. Thank you.

Every time I think of Square Enix I think of how much I loved Enix, and how much it annoys me that people blame them for Square progressively getting more and more retarded over the years.

Also the GTA bit always makes me laugh.

True "casuals" don't play games like Halo or Gears
They play games like Wii Sports
If anything, Halo and Gears can be considered as "Mainstream"

Some people play games to relax after a long day at work. Most of these people will play these "casual" games you mentioned. It isn't because they are too dumb to play the "hardcore" games, they just don't appeal to them. There are still many games that appeal strictly to the hardcore audience so I don't see why you are complaining. Nobody is impressed because you are "hardcore".

There's no such thing as casual or hardcore. What you define as casual games are just games which usually contain a simple concept, small learning curve, can pick up and play for a few minutes at a time.

What you define as hardcore is just the opposite.

In the end they can both be fun, you can spend just as much time on one or the other and get better at them the more you play.

    >Chrono Trigger and other single-player turn-based RPG's take practice to get good at

    >Ninja Gaiden does not take skill

    >Suggesting that the Halo series does not have an extremely high skill cap

    >"Left 4 Dead Tournament matches," are hardcore, as if there exist games with tournament communities that are not hardcore.

Just admit to yourself that your opinions are heavily influenced by your need to consider yourself superior to the mainstream. This way when a 13 year old gangsta kid your ass at Halo, you can console yourself by saying you're really super good at Chrono Trigger.
