    Hey smartfags:

    A + C = D
    A x B = C
    C - B = B
    A x 4 = D

    ABCD = ?

    I'll give you guys three hints

    Hints #1

    Two of the equations have D as their answer.

    Your starting point should be to compare these two equations.

    Hint #2
    A + C and A x 4 both equal D.
    Since A x 4 is the same as A + A + A,
    C must equal a x 3.

    Hint #3
    C - B = B. This means that C = 2 x B.

    You also know from the second hint that C = 3 x A.

    Only one single-digit number is divisible by both 2 and 3. Find it and you've found the key to solving the puzzle.

    This might be wrong, let's see.

    4A = D

    so A + C = 4A, so C = 3A

    3A - B = B

    so B = 1.5A

    A = A
    B = 1.5A
    C = 3A
    D = 4A

    A x 1.5A = 3A

    (A x 1.5A)/1.5A = 3A/1.5A

    A = 1.5

    so

    A = 1.5
    B = 2.25
    C = 4.5
    D = 6

    Oh come on, this is NOT complicated.
    C - B = B
    Thus, C = 2B

    To continue:
    D = 4A
    A + C = D, so A + 2B = 4A, so A=(2/3)B
    AB = C, so (2/3)B^2 = 2B, so B=3

    The horrendous part about this is that in the Japanese version, the important part (the bites) is a lot easier to see (bigger, more obvious), and the very first hint mentions it, whereas in the English version it's not even mentioned in any of the hints.
