everyone just copies WoW and the games won't sell because people just stick with WoW

if they made a great mmo with unique and different gameplay, it still wouldn't sell because people want to play WoW ..while listening to My Chemical Romance and Soulja Boy

It's an almost-new genre. The only large-scale MMOFPS was/is Planetside, and that had only mediocre success (to some extend based on it's system requirements, a gigabyte of RAM and broadband weren't exactly common in 2003, severely reducing the potential customer base)

So, why invest the cash and effort in developing this completely new genre when you can make another WoW clone and know you'll have at least some success (Because at least some of those 12 milllion WoW players will try it in their quest for a better grindfest)

Planetside, with its largest population, was great. If only Sony didn't let it wither and die - they needed to come out with more FREE vehicles, weapons etc... than they did. I loved playing an infiltrator with my ninja knife . There was a BRIEF period of time when the made super Black Ops ninjas with energy katanas, but only very few people got to play them (it was a GM event kind of thing). I also remember the great Rommel-esc charges with my tank batallion. Seriously, if they open sourced this game and allowed private servers, people would go nuts for it even today.

I can only hope Huxley, or The Agency can make up for it. Planetside had everything - great vehicle use, teamwork, a decent variety of weapons, giant robots... hell, I'd settle for a modern "Planetside 2" with updated graphics and game mechanics, alongside constant support and development.

Jumpgate Evolution is supposed to hit beta testing this month - but I think Black Prophecy will be the superior game if/when it comes out.

What's the deal with Huxley anyway? Been in development for 8 years. There's Korean gameplay footage out there.. But .. WHERE IS THE GAME?

Global Agenda is less than 16 player battles

There is a chinese remake of Planetside, http://www.welkin4591.com/ . I tried it for a while, but the languagebarrier, laggproblems and troubles with the updater among other things made me drop it.
From what I understand it's still in beta and open to anyone to join, but will be pay to play.

Probably won't be your saviour, but reliving Planestide is always fun.

There is a free to play space mmo called Infinity, and I have high hopes for it...here is a video:
