It's not that consoles are getting better, it's that nobody is really TRYING on PC anymore. The only ones who give a fuck right now are maybe ID software, although their upcoming games are multiplatform. Sure, PC gets plenty of console ports and it can run them at higher settings and such, but that's not the same as a game truly designed for PC.

Crytek were the last ones to truly push the envelope for PCs. Crysis sold pretty good, but nowhere near enough to deal with its development costs.

itt people who haven't played crysis

the only way they could make it work on a console is by taking Warhead, killing the draw distance even further, bringing the physics and textures down a few notches, making it even MORE linear and cutting each level up into 2-5 seperate pieces.

consoles can run far cry 2 which visually looks pretty good, but there is so much goddamn shit going on in Crysis it's not even a fair comparison

Source is modular, and engines have fuckall to do with graphics.

Engines these days rely on DirectX or (rarely) OpenGL to form the rendering component of the engine, so getting better graphics is simplya measure of changing the DirectX Version, and adding more bloom and sparklies.

Regardless, Source is a good engine. It's very modular, and has been upgraded nurmerous times to meet modern needs.

Because they have better image quality and are easier on the eyes than CRTs, not to mention not being fuckhuge. They're dirt cheap now too, and widescreen monitors are awesome.

The thing is when your tourneyfag power levels are maximum your only option is a 120hz CRT. There are 120hz LCDs out there but the response time is still there.

Do I give a fuck? No, I like my LCD and I've long since adjusted to any blurring. But I acknowledge that 120hz and no LCD response time can make a difference at the highest level of play.

Why do you people care about the Cryengine2 (the engine that Crysis used)

How many devolpers actually used that engine? only one and it was from the who made the damn thing. No one is gonna use this engine...morons

They did get one third party to use the original Far Cry engine.

I guess that puts it on par with the Doom 3 engine.

I play PC games and couldn't give a shit. Crysis was terrible and frankly gaming at the moment is a joke. Anyone satisfied with the market on the whole is probably a faggot teenager.

Yes, I know. The quality is great -- if it wasn't for how goddamn dark it gets when I play 360.

    >> So consoles rule PCs for FPS? You wish, fags! Anonymous 03/24/09(Tue)11:21 No.28982154
now, listen to some real -objective- view
I've seen the trailer, 720p on a 3.3GHz dualcore and 8800GTX. The framerate chugs like rotten rodent through little Joe's throat. Lots of fags said "Techdemo was run on a PC. Not a console". Holy crap. Impossible. even my PC can grind Crysis High @ >1280 res. (ok, no AA)

Textures look washed out. Unimpressive. They compressed the normal maps and bumps to hell and back. That's Gigabytes of texture data shoved on that sub-256MB framebuffer memory on consoles.

The only thing that you will get full-scale is physics. it can be run using CPU at Very High, no problem. As for the others? Downgraded.. everything. DOF, range-of-vision, shaders, even resolution (oooh, trying to look cool displaying Cryengine 3 in 1080p? Dream on. Even 720p would be too laggy to play)

But there are some real good points from the emerging of this Crysis-for-console stuff: Fags will be aware and have more respect for the PC as the superior FPS gaming platform. Even several KZ2 players confirmed that PS3's highest-rated shooter looks crap compared to PC Crysis' caliber of graphics and immersiveness.

FPS? On console? Kay,... eat my fast & accurate headshot earned from a well-placed Razer Salmosa button click. I bet it's 2000% faster than your thumb driving the analog stick.

    he's right though

consoles this generation are pretty much just gimped PCs. They keep adding features that PCs have had for years, like HD and good online, but then they also take stuff like mandatory installs and a market flooded with FPS games. Only unlike PCs you still need to put the damn disc in the drive to play and you have to use a far inferior control scheme for all those FPSes.

Crytek don't make money from their games, they make it from selling their engine and developing non-gaming apps. I was just at a conference with them working on a submarine simulator for example. The games are just demo's to show off the engines, they make a little money, but Crytek has their eyes on bigger things.

Not him, gaming is shit atm. Console games are shallow and have little depth and PC only has ports of these. It really is a joke. I'm finding more entertainment with indie games then i am with AAA titles.

    But that's just an opinion.

I already found out that you can play pc games with just minimum standards. I played the FEAR 2 demo with just minimum standards on a laptop installed 1.6 Intel Centrino Duo, 3 GB RAM, and 256MB Nvidia 8400M GS.

    Sorry I like a challenge.
I'm that guy that picks "hard" difficulty on the startup screen.
Not easy until I beat it once and get used to it.

I don't mind using more coordination to beat the game.

Comparing KZ2 to Crysis? Oh gawd

Killzone2 looks awesome for a console game and Crysis without question is best looking game on anything, but for what Killzone 2 manages to do is impressive you can't deny that.

Having played Killzone 2 since it has come out, I am still amazed everyday on the way it can can do what it does; especially online. They manage to keep the same great quality thats in single player and bring it to multiplayer without any slowdown even in the most fragfest of games.

Getting back the CE3 trailer..that first part where it shows you a building... I dont know if anyone here has played UT3 and played that one map...heatray, it looks exactly like that map, but in UT3 it looks so much better.

I say give it time with this engine.
