    11 KB EVE Online Anonymous 03/22/09(Sun)02:14 No.28874345
I recently was curious about EVE and read a bit about it online. I stumbled upon the below article, and just about came in my pants. Some of you may be familiar with the story, which hit the presses several years ago, its about the Guided Hand Social Club (an ingame faction) and their massive, black ops style hit on another faction (I believe it was the Ubiqua Seraph Corp). Thank god i can't afford to subscribe, because if I got involved any game with this much player complexity, I don't think i could leave my computer to eat.

    Anyways, heres the article.

tl;dr- EVE looks AWESOME. Any players?

There's a recent, probably bigger drama nowadays. The biggest alliance got sabotaged by one of it's leaders who changed sides to the second biggest or something.

Also, there's a bro corp right now, Broski Enterprises is the name. It's doing pretty fine. In it's first month, it war wardecced by 5 older, stronger, richer corps, and kicked all of their asses. Then I wouldn't know, because my trial ended and, despite having lots of fun, I didn't feel like subscribing. But I still talk to them on Steam sometimes, and apparently they have their own 0.0 section nowadays, getting big and shit. Also in an alliance.

I've heard about this game, but I don't get it. People can openly harass and attack other players, but the admins don't do anything?

I believe that's called "open world gameplay"

You can't regulate everything. EVE's developers wanted to create a full-blooded universe, not a regimented, restricted experience.

    >People can openly harass and attack other players, but the admins don't do anything?
What should they do? I mean, apart from banning people who call other people niggers and whatnot.
    >> Anonymous 03/22/09(Sun)02:25 No.28874728
The wonderful thing is that the people who harass the other players end up being the victims of anti-pirate organizations, and can be retaliated against using the same mechanics.

It doesn't happen as often as it should, because many players prefer to be victimized, rather than stand up for themselves and organize an effective counter, but if you're smart, and not a fucking pussy, you can fuck some shit up.

In addition to the free market system (I believe EVE has it's own robust economy, to the point where the developers have hired an economist to do quarterly analyses), it is the admin's low level of interference that makes EVE such an immersive, player driven world.

At least, that's how i understand it

Not exactly. In systems with security level 0.5 and up doing so would get you a visit from the space police police force

though there are ways around that...

Correct. If you do something to get the ire of CONCORD upon you, you have to get blown up by them, or it's considered exploiting.

    -=GETTING STARTED=-
    1. In your local EVE thread (This one), post your email, and a bro will send you an extended trial that
lasts a week longer than the standard trial.

    2. Pick the Classic or Premium client. The Premium client looks a hell of a lot better, but it takes longer to download
and requrires a better comp. The classic client is a quick download (Only roughly 600MB) and has very low system requirents.
You can upgrade from Classic to Premium later if you want to just get started quickly.

    3. Download the client, and if you want, read up on the game a bit at http://www.eve-wiki.net/index.php?title=Main_Page

    4. When you install the game and such, log in, and make your dood, there are a few choices you can make.

    RACE:
Amarr mainly use Lasers in combat, and thier ships tend to have tough armor. They also have a few ships that are good for Drones.

Gallente mainly use Drones and Blasters in combat, and thier ships tend to have tough armor.

Caldari mainly use Missles and Railguns in combat, and thier ships tend to have tough shields.

Mimmnitar mainly use Autocannons/Projectile weapons in combat, and thier ships are the fastest in the game.

Very rough discriptions, but it sholud help you pick.

    BLOODLINE:
Matter of taste mostly. But make shure the attributes are good.

    ATTRIBUTES:
Preception sholud always be the highest, and Charisma sholud be the lowest. No exeptions.
If your charisma is higher than 6 or 7, you're doing it wrong.
The other attributes can be mixed depending on what you want to do. Intellegence is more important for
    Industry charecters, for example.

    ANCESTRY:
Just pick one that gives bonuses that supplement your attributes well.

    EDUCATION:
Again, up to you. Look at the skills each branch gives and pick one that looks good to you. Renember that these are all just
your starting skills, any charecter can train any skill. Picking a fitting education will just give you a better start.

    -=HOW TO JOIN THE BROS=-
    1. When you finish downloading and installing the game and making your dood,
look on the left side of the screen and click the button called "Channels and mailing lists"

    2. Click on "Join", and type in "/v/ bros" without the quotes

    3. Do the tutorial, because it helps to know how to play. Chat with bros for tips while you do.

    4. Once you finish the tutorial, go to the button that says "People and places"

    5. Look in the MotD for /v/ bros, right click on each system, and click "Set destination."

    6. Fly to the one that is the fewest jumps away from you. To cut down on travel time, manually warp to each gate within 0km, instead of using autopilot.

    7. Go there, dock with the first or second station on the right click drop down menu, and on the right side of the screen,
Click on the "Headquarters" tab, find Broski Enterprises, and click "Apply to Join."

    8. A bro personel officer will accept your ap ASAP

    9. ???

    10. Enjoy your EVE.

EVE is not the kind of game everyone can play. It requires patience, foresight, and the ability to not take losses like a bitch. It's the kind of game that makes "hardcore" players from other mmos like WoW and EQII cry like babies. That ship you just got after 3 months of hard work got wrecked in 15 seconds from a miscalculation, small error, or plain bad luck. When it's gone it's gone for good.
The playerbase in general has been known to be pretty cutthroat as well, but if you got the willingness to learn through error (lots of error) you'll find the unforgiving environment of EVE an exciting breath of fresh air in mmos. Anything you can imagine could be done with internet space ships you can do in EVE. Trade, fight, build. Those three staples of mmo gameplay are taken further and given more depth here than any other mmo. But I think what I like the most is that as far as other players go, there is always a bigger fish so to speak. There is always someone that has a huge lead on you in skill points, there's always someone in a bigger, badder ship. And what's great is that despite them being super heroes in comparison to you, the harshness of EVE applies to them just as much as the little guy. And with some wits, friends, and a big pair of balls you can kill anyone and anything you come across.

    >Build, no.
I don't know, man. Building in EVE is an entirely player driven process that usually requires a bunch of people with diverse skills (or a couple alts). Need someone to get the raw material and process it. If tech2 you need a researcher to invent blueprints. And you need someone to actually manufacture the damn thing. On top of that you need the people who can move material and products around. You can build pretty much anything from ship components, to ships, to stations. I'll admit it's more breadth than depth, for example you can't really make custom versions of items. But there are blueprints for item variations already :3
    >> Anonymous 03/22/09(Sun)03:00 No.28875923
Yeah, but how much does subscription cost per month?
    >> Anonymous 03/22/09(Sun)03:00 No.28875943
    >>28875626

Game is free to download. $15 a month to play.

    THAT BEING SAID.

There are items in game that you can purchase in real life called "PLEXs" (Pilot License Extension)

You can buy them straight from CCP (The developer) for $35 for two of them (minimum purchase.) You can do this right in your account management page on their main website.

Once you purchase it, your character gets the item. You can then activate to add a month to your playtime.

    OR

You can trade them in game through the in game market or through contracts. They usually got for 350mill each.

To put this into context, once you get to the highest level of missions, if you do it right, you can make about 100 million in 1.5 hours. Might take longer if you don't get the hang of it right away. However, you can spend a couple days dedicated to grinding these missions and easily make the 300 mill.

If you train right, you can be in the position to make this much money in 3 - 4 months.

I don't know why, but EVE's combat really does put me to sleep, and I can usually stand that style of turned based combat..,
