apparently its actually completely impossible to solo this game. Id avoid it tbh, sounds like a grind, and most ppl will be far higher level so you could be fucked and not able to level up at ALL.

Try some other mmorpg, i doubt this is like any of the other final fantasy games and more just an everquest type clone. If not, someone flame me but i think im right.

FFXI is terrible outdated in terms of mechanics. I dont think anyone can justify their playtime of waiting for a party for hours just to grind some more.

I played it a long time ago and I really liked the atmosphere, music, areas, job system, etc.

But I see they never fixed how hard the game is to solo. What is this Fields of Valor deal and Campaign?

Fields of Valor basically tells you to kill a certain amount of enemies and you get bonus EXP for it once you've killed them all. For example, 3 Lizards and a Worm. Campaign is fun and probably more entertaining than EXP parties, though it's slower.

I just quit after playing for 5 years. It's a much better game now, but it's outdated and feels more like a job with schedules for group events.

Yeah, solo is impossible, but it forces you to PLAY WITH OTHER PEOPLE ON A MMORPG(!) Which I liked. The fact that the game is based around needing each other sets it apart from 'solo x quests to level' in that it is truly online, where a game like WoW could easily be single player side raids and PvP.

Yeah, a lot of it is pretty old. Again with the partying thing, it all depends on your class.

Seems most of these people haven't even played that game. I stopped playing this game years ago, but IT IS POSSIBLE to solo in this game if you have the job of beastmaster. You can even get an NPC to help you solo if you want to.

I also heard they added a new system where high lvl players can help you lvl by putting some sort of effect on themselves. It will lower down their own level so they can party with you, without taking all the exp.

If you find a good LS/group of friends, it's fun, but those are far and few inbetween.

And i'm not kidding you about this, but everything takes painful amounts of time (if you're starting out)

Example : Level main, get subjob items, level sub, break Genkai 1-5, quest for chocobo license, farm gil for equipment(or scrolls, feel free to gimp yourself through this if you're Rdm or Whm though, no one really notices if you just cure and refresh/haste), missions for AT LEAST airship access (useless with ToAU + OP warp), AF (optional)

I'm not saying there's not fun to be had, just don't expect anything done without wasting at least 4-5 hours to accomplish anything. (and that doesnt even include getting to the place or PT seeking time, though level sync has greatly reduced seek time)

Here again. This grouping also bolsters the community and overall manners of most players. I don't run into nearly as many idiots and assholes on ffxi, because if you aren't nice to people, you don't get shit done.

Everything I've said about the game aside, my biggest beef with it is earning money. Near fucking impossible on a high pop server (I played Odin, made my first char there back when server selection was random, go fucking figure) and even if you KNEW what to farm and where, someone was already there. This of course makes it hard to get your scrolls, gear, ammo, food, what have you to level as a competent player.

Quit last year, sold off my 75 BLM/WHM/SMN/RNG/NIN/DRK taru and spent the money on my first few dates with my first real GF. Not even kidding, funny how it works lol.
