  • I'm going to publish that news post I wrote back in December soon.
EDIT: Note my liberal definition of "soon."

Hi, /v/. I've just bought TF2, but I need to learn some stuff which are pretty obvious and basic for more experienced players. However, in most cases instead of simply telling me what's the right thing to do, the teamfags only bawww about the team being shit and make fun of the questions.

So I humbly came here to ask for the basic "do's and dont's" and other things everyone should know, for instance what's the right thing to do when someone Übers me.

    Thanks a lot in advance!

try medicing first to observe what other classes do and try to imitate them.

Pick a class to main then come to /v/ asking for tips on how to play that class.

It doesn't really matter if you suck or not.

So far Pyro's been my favourite class with 20 achievs completed.

    >>27610036
Seems a good idea. But there are more things than healing a Medic should do, sir.
What's the right time to Uber, for example, and what classes are the healing priorities?
    >> Anonymous 02/22/09(Sun)20:47 No.27610396
Play Spy, it's the only fun class.

Ubering, I've found, is generally best when the rest of the team is right behind you, or you're going to die. If the enemy team has a medic with Uber ready, make them pop it first. Wait a few seconds, then pop yours. You'll heal up your buddy, and the enemy runs out first letting you kill them.

If you're all safe, heal the burning first, then the most damaged to least. Don't bother with overheal until everyone is topped off unless you're in friendly territory. Heavy is generally a high priority buddy. Same goes for Soldiers and Demos, since they're strong/hurt themselves. Other than that, whoever is closest and hurt, heal.

depends on the map or what you are trying to accomplish.

ubering a heavy, pyro are great for taking out enemies in corridors or hallways,

but make sure that if you are wanting to take down a SG that you uber a demo. everyone else just really doesnt stand a chance.

play lots of medic, watch classes you are curious about when you are respawning.

HAVE FUN, and dont listen to those bitches ingame. they were all once piss poor n00bs too, ya know.

oh yeah, and CP_WARPATH is a great map to learn quickly and practice different class techniques!

Watch some "how to play" videos if you want, they're pretty useful.

    Class tips:

Demo: The Nade Launcher is for shooting around corners and spamming, unless you're really good with it. Stickies are used for traps and covering your retreat, bottle for emergencies. Try to hide stickies, for example on the sides of doors.

Pyro: W + Mouse 1 is good advice. Suicide strikes are very effective, which is infuriating for non-Pyros. Ambushing is good too, for obvious reasons.

Snoipah: Shoot things, in the head if possible. Prioritize, and don't necessarily place snipers at the top, also don't hide too much.

Medic: Heal people, uber to take out guns or large numbers of enemies. Use the saw if you must fight; Syringe gun is surprisingly poor at range.

Scout: Stay mobile; use the pistol and jump a lot. Don't forget the pistol.

Soldier: Aim for the feet on mobile enemies, then again when they fall to the ground. Practice rocket jumping.

Engie: Observe sentry placement, mimic it. Put dispensers and teleport exits near corners or where you think you'll make a front. Spam with the pistol.

Spah: Always remain professional, be a gentleman. Cloak until well behing enemy lines, disguise as a pyro, and charge from the back, you'll be less suspicious. Remember, it's sap->stab->sap.

Heavy: Shoot things. Don't move into the open without a medic unless absolutely necessary.

    Added. Thx :)

    >>27610561
I see. Will be trying this next time I play :)
O btw, does that also mean I should ignore the desperate MEDICMEDICMEDIC chat flood and follow my own priority line?

    >>27610652
Haha, that's the spirit. It's also good to know the medic trick for learning the gameplay from other players.
So are Pyros, Demos and Heavies the only classes worth Ubering?
