I would like to believe that, but it's already dealing with tech that's a good 7-8 years old already (it doesn't even have a 1 GHz cpu). Even the HD consoles are steadily being outpaced by PCs and DOOM4 is on the horizon which will make the difference all the clearer.

the problem is that the 360 runs on off the shelf PC components which become cheaper to produce much faster than the PS3's components.

I remember I saw an interview with GabeN just as the new consoles were coming out where he said that Sony's was sure that they would have such high market share that everyone would have to develop their games on the obscure tech in the PS3, starving out R+D budgets for the 360. That way they would get almost all the exclusives and the 360 would have greatly inferior ports.
