So I was in Gamestop earlier today browsing the PS2 games and I happened to find a copy of Amplitude for $9.99.I take it up to the counter, buy it and leave. When I got home and opened the game box, I saw 5 words on the disk, below the title.DEMO DISK: NOT FOR RESALEI took it back and got my money back. I was more disappointed than angry.Thumbnail relatedITT: Shitty Game Stop experiences
.........................wat
I would have kept it, demo disks often are rarer than the game itself. Also, amplitude owns
>Shitty Game Stop ExperiencesIs there any other kind?

I wanted to preorder Dawn of War 2, they said they weren't taking preorders when I KNEW they were.Later I found out they were taking preorders, but they ran out of those. Jesus Christ!
When i worked there for half a year and got shafted up the butt everyday... Oh and the time where they stopped giving me hours for a couple months and then decided to tell me I didn't work there anymore.Gamecrazy kicks ass
>> P.O.D.seriously?fuck
>>26543518Gamecrazy is pretty awesome, too bad my local one closed along with the hollywood video it was connected to.Feels bad man
I hate it when you go to buy a game and they "don't have it" when you have the original fucking case right there. Did they sell it without the fucking case or something? Christ. It's happened to me 3 times, with Suikoden Tactics, Parappa The Rapper 2, and with Megaman Anniversary Collection.
I bought Metal Gear Acid, didn't even work on my PSP, so I took it back the next day.
>>26543608They have one song on amplitude. Apparently it was used for the demo.
>>26543885I had them try to just sell me the case once or twice before.I don't buy "Gut Copies" anymore though.
>>26543885fuck, every damn time I go in therePrince of Persia, 3 cases but no disks? fuck offalso, does anywhere still sell original xbox controllers?I wanted to play some splinter cell and shit so i went and bought some gamestop brand controllerProtip: shitsucked
>>26543611Same happened here, my brother worked there. During the closing shit got down to like 90% off. I got a copy of Graffiti Kingdom for like two dollars. He works at Gamestop now. At least we still get the discounts from that. Though they have cut back absurdly on his hours. I hope >>26543518 doesn't happen to him. Though apparently they say they're cutting back on everyone's hours to prevent laying people off.
>DEMO DISK: NOT FOR RESALEYou could have gotten gamestop sued for that bro
>>26544164The internet. The internet sells everything. Not an option? Try your local flea market
I just bought FFXI from their direct to drive service, but the cd key they gave me was invalid and SE decided to ban my account.
>>26544216Maybe, but I'm too lazy and antisocial to sue anyone.
>>26544267nice, I bought FF13 with all the shitty expansions and quit after the first day from how shitty it was.
The Game Stop where I usually buy my games is cool, none of the workers are fags, but shit load of used Madden games.
>>26544310err, ff11
Gamestop NEVER has battletoads in stock.
>>26544107I've had this before, caught the fucker at it the first time. If I'm not totally sure it's the right disc or there's nothing in I check right in front of them. That way they can't bullshit their way out.
So my bad experience is in Game (UK Gamestop clone, not same ownership though I believe) last saturday. I wanted to get CoD4, as I really enjoyed watching All Ghillied Up and the end of the main Marines missions at a friend's house in 07. Anyways I go in and they have a big row of covers in the preowned section, with it going really cheap. So I take one to the counter and they go searching for the game,A few mins later, the guy comes back with sorry no copies left (despite there being a whole row on display), and recommended GOTY edition (which obviously wouldn't have the 4 maps preowned).I went to the manager and went all business strategy on his ass and threatened to complain. I used to work at the Game a few mins away and at least we were the best of the worst, so I wanted to annoy them as they are all dumbfucks.
I hate it when I go to sell games and I only get 2 dollars or less a game. Fckers
>>26543329I'm sorry, bro. Fucking Great Game is Fucking Great. But trust me, you should have kept it.... I can't even get my hands on a copy, so I watch videos on YouTube and practice on a controller just to make sure I don't lose my edge.
>>26544806And then they sell it for $17.99 (50bux if it's something rare like Suikoden II or Valkyrie Profile.) Fucking thieves
>Did they sell it without the fucking case or something? ChristYes, that's exactly what happens faggot. There's a shitload of cases (mostly the ps2 bins..) that are alphabetized once a week and get dismantled in an hour (blame customers), and customers ask for a certain game, and the case can't be found, so they just buy the disk. >Megaman Anniversary CollectionSomeone just traded that in today, perfect condition, and I put it to the side so I can buy it later. It's only 11.99, and I get a nice 25% discount from being an employee and using an edge card. Yay.
Why do you call it gamestop?Because they've stopped selling games lolollol xdxdxd
When I went to get my Spore preorder the day it came out, they gave me a gutted copy and said that they gutted EVERY copy they got in.The fuck.I don't understand how it saves space to put a NEW game's CD in a dusty envelope and the case in the back room, the case doesn't magically shrink. Anything with a CD key that has been gutted draws huge suspicion that they key has been stolen/used.Do you go into a toy store and see their own special rack of opened "new" toys? Do you go to the grocery store and buy an opened box of cereal for full price?
>>26544904>customers ask for a certain game, and the case can't be found, so they just buy the disk.Ahh, why would anyone want to buy just the disc? I know they just want to play the game and all, but fuck.
>I hate it when I go to sell games and I only get 2 dollars or less a game. FckersSome go for 15 cents>And then they sell it for $17.99 (50bux if it's something rare like Suikoden II or Valkyrie Profile.) Fucking thievesNot quite. Rare games actually have high trade in value. Some games like Pikmin 2 and Pokemon Emerald still sell for 34.99-39.99 used, with a trade in value of about 15 bucks. Also, the rarer games are usually snagged by people like myself the moment they're traded in. Gamestop benefits are nice.
Game Stop pretty much has a monopoly on used games. Why isn't anything being done to stop them? They're starting to become like Starbucks, one on every fucking corner.
this is why i dont buy games
>>26545106Other stores sell used games, so they can't call a monopoly on that.Mayve if EVERY SINGLE STORE stopped carrying video games like Walmart, Target, Sears, GameCrazy, rental stores, etc., something could be done about it.There's no way to legally call it a monopoly, as much as it seems like it.
>>26545255Yeah, but it sucks when there are no other used game stores around because they had to close down due to the 3 Gamestops in town.
>>26543518>>26543611Fuck yes, Gamecrazy. I personally know dudes that work at one of them and they're pretty awesome, they always let me buff all the disks I brought in for free since I bought a ton of shit at their place.
it makes me sad that people return games without caseswtfgamestop shouldn't fucking accept those trade-ins
>>26545480If you were GameStop, wouldn't you want to take a fingerprinted disc alone and sell it for just as much as a complete/mint game with case?
>>26545480But they do because they are greedy bastards who don't give a fuck about quality service.
>>26545104>Some go for 15 centsOnly Madden games. I saw some guy trade in Madden 09, and he only got 10 bucks.
>I don't understand how it saves space to put a NEW game's CD in a dusty envelope and the case in the back room, the case doesn't magically shrink.I think you misunderstand the purpose of gutting a game. When you get in new games, you gut a few so the cases can be on display, so customers know that the item is in stock. It also has a little bit to do with marketing, but games aren't gutted to save space. Besides, a lot of customers prefer sealed games, especially when it comes to giving them as gifts, so gutting isn't exactly the best thing to do since you lose a few sales. Space should never be an issue! K i'm done with this thread.
>>26545328There are always hidden shady game trade places. don't be butthurt because the major ones were bought out, just look harder.
>Only Madden games. I saw some guy trade in Madden 09, and he only got 10 bucks.Madden 08 only sells for like 10-15 bucks used....iirc correctly, the trade in value for Madden 09 is 22 dollars store credit...if he got 10 dollars back, it was probably in cash (which is 20% less than what you would get in store credit) and after slapping a refurbishing fee onto it since some people like to chew their cds. K now I'm done...
>>26545589Fuck, then why does the store I visit always tell me they do it because of space? And instead of display copies, can't they, you know, use blank DVD cases and a paper insert instead of taking apart a new game like they do for their demos?
Thread needs more stories for me to rage
>>26543518After which you went to court instead of taking it like a girlWho am I kidding
