And while FF is rather popular in Japan (less popular than in America though), Dragon Quest blows it out of the water in terms of popularity. And that has no belts.

This actually gives me an idea for a cool bad guy. You see, you can take this design, right? Only add/remove/change the following...

Top:
Add- A mask to cover the entire bottom half of the face
Remove- The belt on his nose
Remove- Ponytail
Change- The belt headband to a bandage.
Change- Red/Green eyes to just red or just green eyes. Keep right eye black.
Change- Hair, make it shorter.

Middle-
Change- The zipper strait-jacket into a real strait-jacket made of strong material with one lock in the middle that prevents arms from moving.

Bottom:
Remove- EVERYTHING, even the big doofy sword.
Add- Slacks with a long blade that goes from the hip down to the a little over the knee.

What you would end up with:
A human who underwent an experiments involving cybernetic repair and ultimately getting screwed over Cyborg Ninja status and boing bonkers. Dies by breaking down physically and mentally.

Nero is from Dirge of Cerberus. He is the second strongest of the Tsviets, his brother Weiss outranking him. The belts are meant to restrain him, and the ones around his waist are obviously part of his holsters. I actually liked the Tsivets and Deepground was okay. I did however, hate Weiss' hair.
