ITT great games you never beat because you couldn't get past a certain level

I never beat the original Half-Life 2 because I couldn't beat the part where you're in the prison and have to set up all the turrets and defend yourself against a whole fucking bunch of soldiers. I really wanted to finish it too :[ and now I don't feel like I can go on to any of the other chapters because I don't want to spoil the story.

Thats funny, I kept skipping chapters until i found one that wasn't boring and finally played that one and beat it.

that part is borderline impossible if you setup the turrets wrong.

the trick is to put them far away from the CP spawn points and localize them so you can set them back up faster. The goal is not to use them offensively, but to cower behind them and let them do all the work for you while minimizing the effectiveness of grenades against them.

    1. Grab a small plank of wood.
    2. Use the fly glitch to reach the catwalks above.
    3. Wait it out.

If this is the last of Half Life 2 you played you are going to shit bricks at how awesome Episode 2 is, goddamn.

Also, aren't there rooms you can get into? Why not put two turrets facing the doorway and cover them? I don't remember having any trouble with this part. :-/
    >> Anonymous 01/20/09(Tue)20:38 No.26047580
I always set up the turrets at the main doors where they show up, maybe stick one turret pointing towards the other end of the room, mainly so I know when they are coming from the other direction. Take advantage of your unlimited SMG ammo to help your turrets out, but make sure they get the first shot. Blast the shit out of soldiers and hopefully you'll make it. Also, hopefully you can save most of the health/armor from the machines so that you can fill back up after it's all over.

I beat it on Veteran with 12 health remaining. And I just remembered Alyx saying "it looked like you needed help."

I can't beat Persona 3 or 4 knowing that I am unable to max a couple of social links in time.

That and trolls kept on spamming the ending for both of them. Fuck you /v/.

The trick is to set up turrets at each end then just keep moving between them, making sure one doesn't get overrun. It took me 3 tries to finally survive that bitch, but it was so worth it.

I had that problem too. but I never lowered the difficulty and learned by trial and error.
let me teach you something about fortifying a position:
    1. set up the turrets in the choke points
    2. roam the area, shoot the enemies when you can, and reposition fallen turrets
    3. use grenades when there are many of them
    4. when overwhelmed, tighten your perimeter, to the point that you move back all your turrets in one corridor and stay there

    that's how I survived

This one! Thanks to a bug I couldn't harvest the first little sister (you HAVE to, otherwise the door in the room won't open). I searched the whole internet but noone knew a solution, even if some other people had that bug (no key is working for harvest/kill, even if you edit the config). So I stopped playing, even if I enjoyed it very much to that part :[

Only hard part about that was figuring you you needed to keep the turrets away from walls, the combine would throw grenades and they would be stopped by the walls and take out the turret. So if it isn't near a wall they just fly right past.

    Mother 3.

Got to the lava stage and met the "improved Fassad" boss. But because I was such an impatient faggot, I skipped on a lot of the earlier enemies and that made me have to fight him on a low level. Cue the absolute beating I got and then I realised I would have to do some grinding in the lava stage before I get to fight him. I'll probably get round to it next month...

To do that I think I put a turret on either end of the corridoor the turrets are in, and then just hid in the turret storage alcove.

Actually what I did was go to one of those little offshoot rooms in one of the hallways. Set up two turrets outside facing opposite directions. The third turret I initially set down (you have to set down all three to trigger the assault I think). Then I picked it up and angled myself at the doorway so I was mostly concealed, but was still able to keep it held up outside the room with the gravity gun.

The gun will still fire on anyone it sees, but because it's being held up in the air, combine won't be able to knock it over.

Here's a crude pic of how I did it.

there's another part in the game like that later on. I defended it for such a long time because I didn't hear alyx tell me to get on the elevator, and I ended up dying.

KOTOR 2, managed to reach the final stretch (the part where you have to run around as a droid, you can't do shit, just run) gave up because it just felt horrible and I refused to use cheats.
