  • "UPTIME IS THE GAME, DOWNTIME IS THE NAME"
today marks the end of scheduled maintenance—two guys with two weeks to kill and a few hundred hours later, we're finally [mostly] done.
page loads/image downloads should be dramatically faster. until we hit 1gbps, at least. to all of my wonderful and ungrateful users: "you're welcome."
(note: there are still a few other things i'll be working on so expect intermittent downtime)
ps: thanks so much to mvb for all of the help and support.

55 KB Why are videogames still so expensive? Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)10:42 No.25650202
It seems like whenever a store is having a storewide clearance sale, videogames are the one thing that never changes in price.

Late in the PS2's life we seen many games become Greatest Hits after only a couple months of being on store shelves (and after a full year Sony made God of War an obvious Greatest Hit), there was also compilations of many game series such as Final Fantasy.

Looking at the current state of gaming, its almost like the publishers and developers want people to focus on other hobbies.

Or they're confident people will buy games for asking price no matter what.

Video games were always expensive. One of the reasons your parents didn't want to give you video games in the first place.

I always smile when I hear people say videogames are expensive nowadays.

I remember having to save Christmas and birthday money just to buy Earthworm Jim on the SNES. That shit was 98.99$ (CDN) back then.

    yea this

I mean look at all the "collector's edition"s that come out for games. They charge you 10-20bucks extra for a music CD and some "behind the scenes" footage. AND PEOPLE BUY THESE OUT FASTER THAN THE REGULAR EDITIONS JESUS FUCK.

Op here, they were, but that was due to the technology and the cost of creating that many cartridges. Modern technology only requires the burning of Blu-Ray and DVDs.

Shit, Final Fantasy 3 on SNES cost 80 bucks. I would have never got that for my birthday if I hadn't been sick that day and vomited by the game case at Wal-Mart.

    Didn't PS4 cost $90?
    >> Anonymous 01/13/09(Tue)10:49 No.25650428
Unlike movies, the vast majority of profit comes from people purchasing the games themselves.
