    >Mark my words here - NCsoft is just the beginning. Their patent pretty much covers every instance where users with avatars interact in a virtual space. From Second Life to World of Warcraft, PlayStation Home to Anarchy Online; everything massively online and multiplayer falls under this patent. This should be interesting, folks.

TIME TO SUE THE WHOLE WORLD, YEAHHHH

They might destroy NCsoft, but Blizzard will destroy them, and then the entire MMO market will belong to blizzard. Shits gonna suck hard.

but what about pre-2000 MMOs like Everquest and Ultima Online D:
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:04 No.24915019
I would judge that they are about 9 fucking years too late with this shit since Everquest came out in 1999.
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:04 No.24915020
Well, they can't sue EQ at least, because the patent was filed after it came out.
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:04 No.24915030
This'll go either one of three ways. Either:

    A. There'll be another reform on how patents work.
    B. NC Soft and others with their large sums of money will hire the best lawyers in the land to find a different way to phrase what they've been doing.
    C. NC Soft and others will take it up the butt and MMORPGs will be dead.
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:04 No.24915050
    Hope they take down Blizzard

    >Mark my words here - Burger King is just the beginning. Their patent pretty much covers every instance where people put beef inbetween two piece of bread. From Wendy's to McDonald's, Arby's to Checkers; everything massively distributed and eaten falls under this patent. This should be interesting, folks.
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:07 No.24915172
Whoever allowed that patent to go through is a fucking idiot.

This is like patenting oxygen and suing everyone for breathing it.
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:08 No.24915203
Watch this happen, they take down NCSoft, EA finds out they own rights to UO and UO has the original mmo patent, EA takes over. Blizzard burns.

The companies would save money if they just all chipped in and hired a team of assassins.
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:09 No.24915224
does this mean animal crossing too? and pretty much every multiplayer game ever?
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:10 No.24915263
The best they can get is, what, a few billion? Do you have any idea how much gold this Rumple Stiltzkin has?
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:11 No.24915335
    >>24915030
Not just MMORPGs, MMOs in general. Actually, this covers small-scale multiplayer online games, too.

NO MORE MULTIPLAYER UNLESS YOU PAY WORDSCOM GOLDS FOR THE RIGHT TO USE THEIR PATENT: 'MULTIPLAYER'.

    oh god
    >> Berg the /v/irgin 12/29/08(Mon)21:12 No.24915372
This won't hold up in court. This doesn't just cover an MMO, this technically affects any online game such as HL:DM, Ultima, or Doom, all of which were released years before the millennium.

Lets throw that aside, assume that they made the very first online virtual interaction ever in the year 2000. I've never even heard of these guys, they have done NOTHING with their product, how can you sue if you don't do anything with wasted potential.
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:13 No.24915398
What the fuck, does that mean shit like online gaming lobbies, chatrooms, forums, and shit like Neopets are getting sued?
    >> Cyrus !!abIc2O8kqZb 12/29/08(Mon)21:13 No.24915399
Good luck trying to sue Nintendo, they have Phoenix Wright and Apollo Justice.

I think Nintendo is safe, I tried getting into a Brawl match on wifi and it would seem there is no interaction between players, just a loading screen
    >> Anonymous 12/29/08(Mon)21:17 No.24915550
I can't believe something like this would go through, not for long anyway.
If they do successfully sue then they're going to get the attention of every company with an online game ever.

Gravity, nexon and blizzard all bearing down on worlds with their high priced lawyers at once, shit isn't going to end well.
And like >>24915172 said anyway, It's like patenting air.
You can't get pissed with everyone for breathing it just because you claimed it all as your own.

Guys, we're fucked. They'll start with the small companies. NCsoft and the like, get millions of dollars in suits. Hire better lawyers. Take on bigger companies. Get millions. Hire better lawyers. Take on bigger companies.

    They're grinding. In real life.
