F.E.A.R has EXCELLENT scary sequences which always give me goosebumps whenever I encounter them, no matter how many times I play through them.

The actual FPS gameplay, though, is pretty standard with some Bullet Time thrown in to make things easier for you. Unfortunately, it never gets better at any point of the game. But, it kind of balances out with the enemy AI being among the best of all FPS games, with enemies acting quite realistically (talking to each other, making cover available with whatever is around, dodging grenades, spotting your flashlight).

I hope F.E.A.R 2 improves on the FPS gameplay by making it a bit more interesting.

there's a torrent with and both of the expansion packs just get that if you want to give them money just buy fear 2 when it comes out. no point in digging around for out of print games.

A few choice words.

I love FEAR. The AI is excellent, story is nifty, and the scare sequences are pretty tight. Firefights look cool but the gunplay is a little stale. Slow motion is handled well.

Only thing bad about the game is it can be a little merciless at times and it seems like the environment never changes.

Other than that I'd recommend it!

Funny how that seemed to be the case with the original FEAR which was a good game, but the two expansions had a lot better environments but ultimately didn't live up to the base game.

FEAR is awesome. Its expansions are not. It's not necessarily scary but it's tense. Depends on your tolerance for scary things. Don't listen to the bitter old Resident Evil fellating critics. It's an awesome game and one every PC gamer should beat once.
