    Hey /v/
I've saved up about $3000 for a new gaming PC.
Can anyone recommend some things for me?
I'm mostly playing source games & COH if that makes any difference.

An xbox wireless adapter and a 360 control pad.

Too lazy to think anything up but imagine i posted a really amusing joke about Crysis still not running on it.

If you don't know where to start, then I would suggest this.

However, if you are dead set on a PC, post the same topic in /g/. Include a picture of a mac to get more responses.

a keyboard can be shit but a good mouse is invaluable.

Mount and Blade is awesome but really doesn't require a very good computer.

OP Here, I want some names of good internal parts.
    >>24348326
vii is too much $$ for the clock speed that i want.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/08(Thu)05:38 No.24348535
i suggest getting a well customized dell.

they offer parts/ warranty at better rates/prices and guaranteed in house tech support.

    >too much money
    >$3000 computer
no it's not, unless you're buying it from Alienware or some shit. Clock speed hasn't mattered in a long time.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/08(Thu)05:49 No.24348772
Spend $1000 on a decent (quadcore) computer
Spend the rest on two $1000 hookers.

    >>24348475
Clock speed means dick. Core count is all that matters.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/08(Thu)05:53 No.24348842
Don't spend more than 1500 on a new PC
Otherwise you're just going to look like an idiot in a month or two

Only two games use more than two cores.

But, CPU speed is retarded anyway. Every Intel CPU can be overclocked with a $35 heatsink to be more powerful than any application needs.
    >> Anonymous 12/18/08(Thu)05:58 No.24348965
$3000 us? wayyy too much. you can get a awesome pc for less then a grand, much less if you can use a old hard drive or two, swap in old DVD drive, etc. + 200-400 for monitor. you can get a great pc for under $500
    >> Anonymous 12/18/08(Thu)05:58 No.24348968
    1. Find a friend who knows shit about computers
    2. Let him build a badass computer for about $1000
    3. Enjoy having $2000 to spend on whatever the fuck you want
    >> Anonymous 12/18/08(Thu)06:00 No.24348991
    >>24348894 ... right now
Anyone who thinks no game will use more than 2 cores is retarded.

Spend the extra $50, get a quadcore.

Quad-core is ultra high end. We already know there's a limit as to how many cores we can have since memory capacity isn't keeping up, there's just no way that quad-core technology will be necessary for any game in the next 3 years.

By COH do you mean Company or City of Heroes? Not that it really matters for the PC, but just interested.

Recommended requirements =/= necessary to play

a 2.4 GHz quad core processor is recommended, but I'm playing on high with a OC'd dual-core running at 3.2 GHz.
