24 KB I suck at Fighting Games. Skinny 12/13/08(Sat)00:01 No.24098344
I've played some fighting games off and on since SFII first came out. Thing is though, I've never been that good at them. Everyone I know can easily beat me, and I don't do that well in them. My key problems are:

    1. I don't understand any particular strategy. I just spam a few special moves over again
    2. Don't know how to combo, or when to use ultimate moves
    3. Don't really "understand" the point of various moves. Why have three different punch and kick attacks in SFIII for instance? What's the point?

The specific fighting games that I own, and would like to get better are below. Can anyone link to INDEPTH cool guides on them?

    - SFIII: Third Strike
    - GG: XX Accent Core
    - Garou: Mark of the Wolves

(Suggest any other top tier fighting games too :D)

www.shoryuken.com register and read the x game threads. probably hundreds of pages of them but you will LEARN SO MUCH.
Ask (pm) srk forum members who seem knowledgable for faqs/pointers on your favorite game/character.

DO NOT GIVE UP THE ROAD TO VICTORY TAKES A MINUTE TO GET ON
www.gamefaqs.com is where I would probably spend a good deal of time looking at combos and tactics. If you have a controller/adapter I'd consider playing 3rd strike online. dustloop (google it) has a AWESOME GG forum and community just don't go started n00b threads like "hey guise whats some BnBs for X char"

Once you start lurking SRK for time wasting it actually becomes more enjoyable (for me) than 4chan. Information is key to winning in fightan'. Eventually you will be pretty well versed in fightan' terminology/basic strategy

BUY AN ARCADE STICK I DONT CARE IF YOU DONT LIKE THEM IF YOU EVER WANT TO GET GOOD AT ANY FIGHTAN GAME YOU WILL NEED ONE.

    WILL DEFINITELY NEED ONE.

ask any general questions and we will answer ITT

KOF 98 (UM got a good community reception, but I don't like the tier rebalancing myself)
SF2 is god tier among fighters but takes some patience to get into because older veterans will mop the floor with you all day. This helps you get better faster but is annoying.
    Garou is damn good
Last Blade 2 has lots of online comp
SamSho is the shit all of them are pretty awesome
    DARKSTALKERS DARKSTALKERS DARKSTALKERS
or Vampire as hardcores call it, DS has a awesome community, as easier to get into combo system then most, and a huge thread on the "other games" sub-section of SRK forums that is REALLY AWESOME THREAD.
SFA3 is kinda broken but is incredibly n00b friendly provided the other person isn't v-akuma. Its also one of the better capcoms for "playing around" when its not "srs bsns" time.
World Heroes (1, 2, perfect), Fatal Furys, Breakers Revenge, are all good games with online competition.

The marvel series get a bunch of shit but you can't really play with people above your skill level. They will just infinite you all day and get perfects. Find someone trying to learn on SRK forums and you will have a blast as they are all good games in the VS series.
there are a few more but I think I covered the classics.

This guy from the MvC2 board in gamefaqs way back when asked for help on how to get better.

Ultimately, he just kept playing the best people.

His best accomplishment to this date is raising Dhalsim (of ALL people) to mid-tier.

Your competition will ultimately determine how far you'll get.

this times 10000x as well but you can do decent for yourself if you play online alot as well as study youtube if you don't have a local arcade/fightan' scene.

    >>DARKSTALKERS DARKSTALKERS DARKSTALKERS

I tried out both of the Vampire/Darkstalker 2 games for arcade, and I wasn't hugely impressed. Didn't like the aestetics, didn't like how it played, etc etc.

You didn't just play Night Warriors/DS1 did you? Those two are nowhere near the awesomeness of the third (Vampire Savior).

    Arcana Heart,
Blazblue (If you can find an arcade with it),
KoF (any of the newer ones, also try XI),
Last Blade/Last Blade 2 if you can find them.

Some good PC ones as well:
    Melty Blood
    Big Bang Beat
    Immaterial and Missing Power

    also
    >Mugen
is the worst thing you could possibly be recommended.

    quick info

all fighting games rely on mixing your opponent up.
you put them in a situation where they guess what you are going to have to do next

    for example:
    situation 1
    player 2 gets knocked down
player 1 does a move that must be blocked low as p2 gets up
player 2 blocks high and gets hit

    situation 2
    player 2 gets knocked down
player 1 does a move that must be blocked high
player 2 blocks low, gets hit

see where i'm going with this?
