    New FFXI Update

    http://www.playonline.com/pcd/verup/ff11us/detail/3893/detail.html

Field of Valor looks awesome so far. MMM was delayed, fuck. Some other handfuls of goodies, but lacking content without MMM ready. Also I like how they changed the Op Warp location for Sandy and Bastok, but for Windurst it fucking sucks.

In a countermeasure against RMT, several items that sold well to NPCs now sell poorly. It is noted in the version update.

This bad. I wish SE realized that. It's going to have a negative effect on multiple things beyond the removal of that source of money.

    >>23888079
The sale prices for the following items have been changed:
Black Ink / Bugard Skin / H. Q. Bugard Skin / Orc Piercer / Yagudo Freezer / Shellbuster / Leech Saliva / Bird Blood / Beast Blood

Furthermore, after obtaining items or gil from a coffer or chest, players will temporarily become unable to receive items or gil from other coffers or chests." I suppose this does keep us from preventing others from getting their maps and AF.

Blizzard handled the RMT situation quite nicely in my opinion. They pretty much eliminated the need for farming by making it easy to make gold, thus rendering the need for purchasing gold obsolete outside the truly lazy.

I think it's more due to the fact that most of the gear in wow are 'hand outs' from quests and instances. Here, the majority of them are crafted. Crafted are balls hard on the wallet in the first place. So..

I think that's actually handling it poorly if you ever want to worthwhile player ran market. Sure it works, but it's like burning down the forest to fix a problem.
    >> Anonymous 12/08/08(Mon)14:53 No.23888604
Looks like you lazy shits will actually have to WORK for your gil now. I'm a level 89 smithy, I know my fucking gil.

Except as >>23888373 puts it, the worthwhile gear and items are gained from reputations and drops, meaning they "bind" to your character so you can't sell them. WoW's economy is actually much better than FFXI's
    >> Anonymous 12/08/08(Mon)14:57 No.23888752
It amazes me how much Square-Enix continues to steal from WoW. Keep this up and I might actually have a reason to go back

    It's a PROGRESSIVE economy

They've moved past the need for money at all by just handing it out to players like fucking candy!

Really, the only use for money in WoW is repair bills and certain items that cost ridiculous amounts of cash like special mounts.

You make it sound like it's a bad thing to not give players yet another timesink to have to deal with. There is still a need for money(consumables, tradeskill items, enchantments), it's just that they alleviated a great deal of it so the player can spend more time online doing something else like enjoying themselves.
    >> Anonymous 12/08/08(Mon)15:19 No.23889494
    >>23889126

"WOW INVENTED FUN" is just as ridiculous. Actually, killing monsters for exp isn't fun in WoW or FFXI.

    >>23889278

So its okay to credit WoW for everything because its popular?

A living player economy is one of the most interesting concepts of a MMO. Making money pointless stakes that in the heart.

And you are wrong about the "enjoying themselves" part. If money is no longer a concern they spend time grinding gears directly instead of money to pay for that gear.

There could be fun ways to earn gear, but the same could be said for money too. Not much of an argument.

No, you're wrong. It means I get to enjoy more PvP without having to stop and farm money to pay for my repair bills and reagents. While WoW might have done some things wrong, they have done way more things right which is why they are currently the leader in the genre.
    >> Anonymous 12/08/08(Mon)15:30 No.23889838

That doesn't make sense, neckbeards love WoW and love grinding for gear like they do money.
