11/14/08(Fri)22:42 No.22769384ok,
no. This is stupid. All of you saying this is ok, are stupid. All of
you saying that the used market is killing videogames, are stupid.
Lets run through this:
When
you pirate, 1 person buys a game, (sometimes no one buys a game) and
then thousands of people can play it and own it ALL AT THE SAME TIME,
even though 1 or none of the physical product sold.
When you buy
used, just as with cars, hardware, houses, etc., when you buy it used,
either from a store that bought it from a person (gamestop) or straight
from another person, that original owner CAN NO LONGER ENJOY THE
PRODUCT, SINCE THEY NO LONGER HAVE IT.
So, company X gets mad
that a used game can be sold and sold and sold so many times and they
only see profit from the first sale.
They are not entitled to
that money. They are only entitled to the sale of 1 physical object.
Sure, if i buy a used game, company x sees no money, but company x also
didn't have to print another copy of a game for me to buy. They payed
no additional manufacturing costs for the product i'm playing, so why
should they be entitled to my money?
This is all greed.
Companies aren't "hurt" by used game sales, used game sales are simply
an area of profit that is out of their reach, but they want it anyway.
If a company says they are hurt by used game sales, it means they feel
they should be payed multiple times for manufacturing 1 copy of a game.
That's the same logic as expecting someone who pays full price for a
game to pay full price again 3 or 4 times, because the company feels
they should have that money.
Really, the videogame industry is
composed of the greediest assholes i've ever seen, and because i've
seen no one mention this aspect of it before, /v/ is full of idiots.
But that's not a surprise.
Piracy can hurt. Keyword "can" Used
game sales can never hurt, and any company saying so is a greedy
asshole that wants to make money multiple times off of the same
manufactured object. |
