I play jRPGs almost exclusively. I am not a weeaboo, it just so happens that the RPGs I like the most come from Japan. I don't get fed up with belts and zippers because I am a reasonable person who can deal with a few unpleasant things without having to act like a child.

The only wRPGs I've played are Morrowind, Oblivion, and Diablo 2. I've tried to get into Deus Ex and Baldur's Gate, but it just didn't happen.

Things I don't like about wRPGs:
    1. The worlds all feel the same. Same generic LoTR knock-off setting (I haven't played Fallout).

    2. Lack of personality. The main character is a blank slate 99% of the time. I don't like when they do this in jRPGs either (Chrono Trigger, Suikoden...).

    3. Lack of party members. It's one of my favorite parts of jRPGs: character interaction. I don't care about morally branching dialog because it's never seemed that deep in the first place.

    Things I like about wRPGs:

    1. Skill growth. I love the system from Morrowind/Oblivion. It should be required in all jRPGs. The more you use a skill, the better it gets. Obvious.

    2. Sidequests. The amount of different guilds you could join in Morrowind is staggering and probably the most fun of that game.

    3. Combat. Real-time combat is almost always funner than turn-based. Diablo 2 has the most satisfying combat I've ever experienced in a video game.

I guess I'm looking for a wRPG that might appeal to someone who enjoys interesting characters, and a world that isn't just generic fantasy #47363.

As someone who thinks JRPGs suck massive dick, I respect your opinion.

Deus Ex is a shitty RPG and an even shittier FPS. Not trolling either.

Baldur's Gate, Fallout, Arcanum, and Ultima would all like a word with you.

If someone said this exact same thing about JRPGs, would you rage? Ignorance at it's best.

    OP you're just fucking ignorant

This is as bad as someone stereotyping all JRPGs off of FFX

Do they actually react to things that happen in the story? That's really what I'm looking for. Stuff like FFX where each character has their own take/reaction to story events.

BG2 and Arcanum include many party members who react to the plot or have their own backgrounds to explore.

The main character is a blank slate 99% of the time because 99% of the time a WRPG wants YOU to give the character personality, and it wants YOU to build and shape him however you want.

that's why there are so many choices and that's why I LOVE WRPGs. now I must get back to my morrowind.
