So /v/ on CNN theyre discussing violent video games and how they are bad for kids socially.

Does /v/ agree with this? Honestly I've been playing video games since I was 3 (got my sega genesis on my 3rd b-day) and I've turned out fine....other then being on 4chan.

People constantly laud me for being a "good person", so I doubt it... but then again I didn't start playing video games until I was twelve.

Of course violent games are bad for kids. That's why the fucking rating system says they're meant for adults.

Its the fault of shitty parents when kids get their hands on games they aren't ready for.
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)18:09 No.20282889
First of fucking all, your personals experiences have no meaning in the grand scheme of things. Yup, that's right? How's it feel having your input be worthless unless you are contributing to a study with more than a thousand others?

Secondly, violent video games are not a catalyst for bad behavior, parents are.

i've always had a short temper, i by no means blame the vidya
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)18:10 No.20282938
it's because parents want to point the blame anywhere but themselves when their kid fucks up
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)18:10 No.20282941
depends on the kid. I was/am fine. but my first 'real' violent game (if i'm remembering correctly) was duke nukem on the 64. i was 9
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)18:11 No.20282956
Fuck, games don't have a thing to do with it, it's parents who can't bring up a child properly.
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)18:12 No.20282987
Bullshit. It helps relieve stress, rather than encourage you to go kill people.

eh.... if i have had a tough day i dont turn on my console and start killing people, but if somethings bothering me ill go play games to forget about it.

on the news they were saying that theres no positive outcome to violent games. personally i think that they teach timing and dexterity with the hands (headshots namely)
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)18:19 No.20283288
    No.
It is stupid parents giving their kids violent video games.
THE RATINGS ARE THERE FOR A REASON. DO NOT GIVE YOUR 10 YEAR OLD SON GRAND THEFT AUTO!
Is that so fucking hard to do? I played Sonic and Mario games when I was a kid. I worked at a camp over the summer as a counselor for a group of 2nd graders. Curious as to what games are popular to kids these days, I asked a kid what his favorite game was. It was fucking Grand Theft Auto:San Andres. "It's cool! I got a machine gun and killed all these people!" he said.
    :/

People want the government to take care of everything for them. People want the government to ban everything, because they can't take responsibility for themselves. It's sad really, people would rather trade their freedom for security all because they are too lazy to take care of shit for themselves.

a video game has never made me or gave me the urge to want to kill a person in real life. people's actions in real life provide me such feelings way more than chopping someone's head off in ninja gaiden ever did.

i grew up around video games. and the first "violent" game i remember playing was mortal kombat on the genesis. anything i played before that i never passed as violent because they're pixels, and i was a kid where the term 'violence' is fairly inexistant.

been playing games for more than 17 years now, most of them of the questionable content type and i still havent murdered anyone. my parents never interfered with my hobby (one reason why kids would want to stab their parents), they trust me enough to know that i am capable of making the right decisions.

that's the thing that kids these days are oblivious to. they're too impressionable because of the advent of the internet and parents are always working so they never have enough time to spend with their kids and sit down and explain the consequences of certain actions.
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)18:23 No.20283429
I've played violent games since I was a kid and It's not like I'm out outside shooting people with a gun because I saw it in a game

they are just retarded and overprotecting parents

it most certainly is the parents. im pretty sure most of us grew up on sonic and mario as well.

i work at gamestop and some younger kids come in with their parents to buy M rated games occasionally. these kids are almost ALWAYS unruly, loud, and extremely enthusiastic about games.

i shit you not one kid was talking to another while waiting in line (i think it was his brother)
"yeah wouldnt be cool if they had chainsaw guns like in gears of war, but in real life? man id chop up so many people from school"

    was very akward
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)18:25 No.20283502
I grew up on violent vidya too, if anything they made me less violent as a person.
    >> Anonymous 09/20/08(Sat)18:32 No.20283762
I my first violent game, Marathon. I always loved games. I've been playing FPSes ever since. Now people want to take this away from me? Okay. How about instead of me shooting fake people, I go out shooting you? You ban my video games, I ban you from life. There's your violence, you little pricks. The hell I send you to will seem like heaven when I'm done with you.

not really supporting the argument that violent games arent destructive are you?

im not sure about you (actually im pretty sure you'll think the opposite) but playing violent games have never made me want to kill another human (except online when faggots spawn camp RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGE)

If you can't tell the difference between a game and real life you are probably a filthy beast NIGGER.
