I just built a pretty boss gaming PC for $700 after tax/shipping. I can play The Witcher 2 at a stable 60fps with the graphics on high. My mom wanted a new PC as well, I offered to build her one for cheap. Two weeks later I found out she spent $1200 on some rent-to-own piece of shit which can barely run Minecraft.

Those are what I'm mainly looking forward to in 2013. There are things like this or the next Football Manager which I'm personally not interested in. There are also things like The Witcher 3 and Half Life 3 which are coming sooner or later, and a heap of titles where it's too early to tell.

Moore's Law, crowd-funding and modern broadband is all pulling in one direction: the PC. Every generation of consoles costs a fortune more than the last to produce and doesn't last any longer before becoming obsolete: that is not sustainable.

The next generation will be obsolete before it even rolls off the production line. Developers can continue to take shit from the platform owners and publishers just so they can crunch 30 fps out of a console, or they can start making games for the PC.

pc's specs differ so greatly, a guy on ultra fast internet, with the latest specs playing a guy with a 3 year old computer with average internet has an instant advantage

The connection speed sure makes a difference but consoles at least put everyone on a level playing field (mostly) more than pc anyway
