Why doesn't America have a decent RPG formula like Japan does?

I'm not a Japanophile who will zealously defend Japanese RPG while denouncing anything western, but the state of western RPG is absolutely pathetic.

Why is it that Japan can have RPG targeted towards hardcore audiences that DOESN'T rely on raunchy toilet humor, and casual gameplay, while America can't do it?

Besides a few gems like Skyrim, the first few Fallout series, etc... The U.S. RPG are either "LOLSORANDOM" poorly drawn crap for kids(i.E. BORDERLANDS), or "lets be as stupid and raunchy as possible!" for adults, like Borderlands 2, and that new game Mass Effect 3... Seriously, don't get me started on that piece of shit.

Anyways, obviously we have a few gems, but even then they are for "kids," and anything for adults has no shading, simple art/formula, and is just silly comedy fodder.

Why can't we have RPG that transcends those confines? Why can't we have serious RPG for adults that does not rely on half-assed comedy?

Yes, a good chunk of the games that come out each season are utter garbage, but they still have a lot more gems. and originality than the U.S. can manage.

Why do you think our RPG is stuck in such a sorry state? Why is RPG automatically stigmatized as being for children? Why can't we get RPG for adults that isn't CAWL OF DOOTY or LE MINECRAFT XD, or any of the Bioware garbage?

I'll give us credit for TES, and Dark Souls, but so much of it is just unforgivable.

There are plenty of good WRPGs that don't rely solely on raunchy humor or LOLSORANDUMB.

Alpha Protocol is arguably one of the more imaginative RPGs of late, with a focus on timing your conversation rather than just waiting for the other person to stop talking, Mask of the Betrayer is more or less Planescape Torment 2, New Vegas was far from raunchy, and Dragon Age: Origins had it's moments.

Also, why on earth are you trying to use Borderlands as an example of an RPG? It's nothing more than an action game with a few numbers attached that has no pretense of roleplay or serious storytelling.
