Good evening /v/, and welcome to our nightly thread where I'll dump one old magazine for everyone to gather around and enjoy. If you're bored and have nothing to do, why not come on over, take a seat with your bros, watch the world burn and roast some marshmallows with us.We're all bros here, so if you wanna nostalgia and talk about your childhood vidya experience, feel free.Tonight's issue is was originally published on July, 1993.We hope you like this thread and enjoy your stay. With kind regards, your neighborhood anon
>>140841848Ah this issue.I actually have this one.
>Links AwakeningYou have my attention...
>Anon, where'd you get all these scans?retromags.comYou need to register to download, though. And you're limited to one download per day, that is, if you're not a site donator or contributor. There is a workaround, however. I don't wanna blurt it out like that, so all I can say is take a look at the download link. I'm sure you'll figure it out. There's also some mags over at emuparadise.me, or so some anons say.>Anon, why don't you upload RARs?Because they're already available on that site I just mentioned. I don't have enough time during the day to upload them, so... yeah.If you don't want to download them manually, wait until I finished dumping the magazine and use JDownloader to batch download them.>Anon, why are you doing this?Too much non-vidya, and also I'm bored. So why the fuck not?
Terribly sorry for taking so long to tend to our evening post, gentlemen. I received a lengthy, annoying call from somebody that I feel could've been made better some other time. Anyways, lemme continue.
>that feel when you bought every Nintendo Power from 1999-2002Back when Nintendo was worth something.
>>140843796It's okay.
Pure, 100% Nintendium right here folks. Not the fucking impure, mixed allow we get on our DS today, no sir. This shit was made tough, to last even after we expired our last breath. This one time, stupid me decided to leave my Game Boy on the dashboard all day. The next day when I wanted to play some Spider-Man 2, I went over to pick it up and the fucking screen was pitch black because LOLheat.Amazingly, after letting it rest for a half hour on the fridge, I turned the sucker back on and it worked flawlessly.
>>140844238>Amazingly, after letting it rest for a half hour on the fridge, I turned the sucker back on and it worked flawlessly. Why aren't we using this stuff as battle armor?
>>140844238>alloy
>>140844238>This one time, stupid me decided to leave my Game Boy on the dashboard all day. The next day when I wanted to play some Spider-Man 2, I went over to pick it up and the fucking screen was pitch black because LOLheat.Ah Nintendium stories. I love listening to theses.
LJN DELIVERS A NEW CHAMPcaptcha: Its Rookers
>>140844424>Bubble Bobble 2I loved the fuck out of that game
>>140844424>He used the hookshot
>>140844648Shit, forgot all about Razor Ramon.Too bad he killed a guy and was consumed by the guilt.
>>140844556I once dropped Tetris inside my toilet because GOD KNOWS WHY, I HAD TO CARRY MY CARTRIDGES ON MY PERSON ALL DAY ERRYDAY.After letting it dry, it worked, but it did ocasionally bug out from then on out. The connection did rust though, and the cartridge is slightly more yellow than my old Spider-Man cart.
>>140844238>putting your gameboy in the fridge
>>140844869Ha ha ha even the cartridges can go though hell and still work.
>>140844648>>140844845This is what Razor Ramon/Scott Hall is like today. He gets paid to show up at tiny, independent venues. He's only 54, but he's so fucked up because of drugs and physical abuse that he has to physically assisted into the ring.
Personally wish NP was a bit more light hearted like they used to be.
>>140845230Holy shit, what the fuck happened to him? What did you say happened to him?
Pretty bro of you, OP. I still have my first copy of Nintendo Power, Mom bought it before I was even born.
>>140845531Man, that must've been awesome. My mom has always hated videogames ;-;
>>140845450Drugs. Lots of 'em. That and physical injuries caused by wrestling. He's not in physical shape to compete anymore. He also has a lot of trouble with the law. I think his last arrest was in 2012.Ever watch the movie The Wrestler? Scott Hall is the real-life version of that.
>>140845701I'll have to check it out one of these days, thanks.
>>140845697Well my Dad hated them, so it kind of evened out.
AND NOW FOR SOME MOTHER FUCKING EVOHELL YEAH
HOLY SHIT THIS GAME IS FUCKING AWESOME.
>This OP dumping Nintendo Power scans againOh boy, OP! /v/ really needs more people like you.
I love writing from the 90sJust fucking love it. Everyone tries too hard to be so edgy and internet now, makes me sick.
I dunno why, but everytime I start a new game, I end up doing the same stupid mistake as fish. I haven't played it in a while, so I can't say exactly how.I only remember that there was this one expensive as fuck upgrade to one of your body parts that was nothing but a troll (or, at least, I never found it any purpose). Grindan for a while just to be dissappointed, and then grindan some more to afford fixing my mistake.Aw shit, dem memories.
UNICORN. RABBIT. MOOSE. SERIOUSLY. IF YOU HAVEN'T PLAYED THIS GAME, YOU DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT VIDYA.
EdutainmentI haven't heard that fucking word in ages.
Ugh... Bubsy...
i have a nintendium story for you guysmy original copy of the original legend of zelda, i was playing it in my top loader nes, and my friend tripped and stomped itit broke in two....but it still worked. forever, without any issue at all, so long as you used a top loader nes. Even with half of the game missing, it was fine.
I mean, I haven't really, REALLY played it to actually say anything about it. I'm sure it's a great game, but if there's something that Bubsy really pointed out to me, is how often would american developers fuck up camera control on platformer games. As opposed to games like Mario, where the camera would always keep your character dead center (unless you had reached the edge of the screen), games like Bubsy would allow the character to move all over the fucking screen without the camera moving one inch. This is great for other types of games, but DEAR GOD did the fucking camera make me hate this and all of Bubsy's games.
>>140847198The first Bubsy is passable at best it's not as terrible as it's sequels but it's still not great.
>>140847184Shit son, that's like gore to my eyes. But it's awesome it still works. At least if your battery dies, you can have quick access so you can swap it faster.
>>140846912>Not liking BubsyEven if only ironically. You are doing a great job, OP. Don't ruin your reputation because of shitty/ignorant opinions.
>>140847512Are you saying it's good?Not trolling.
>>140847610i'm not that guy but i actually enjoyed the bubsy where he was in the museum when i was a kid, probably wouldn't now though
> be 15> get this issue as my first and only issue of nintendo power> read it over and over for 6 years> forget all about it> This threadOP you made me shed a man tear, thanks.
>>140847512Sorry man, but it's just an opinion of mine. Granted, I should give it a fair chance, as all vidya deserve, but that was just the first impression it left on me this one time a friend lent it to me for a weekend.. At any rate, you're free to express your opinion as well. As a matter of fact, I encourage you to do so.
This looks familiar, so I think I might have also read this one. Not sure if I have it. I think all my NPs have covers. But that cover is unfamiliar to me. I might have read it over someone elses house then.
>>140847610The first game it's not that bad really. And I was talking about the character. /v/ kinda likes him for all the stupid shit he does or wanted to do. That and nostalgia, of course.
I haven't really read through many of these threads, but Nintenbro, you are fucking awesome.
reported for non vidya
>>140847689>>140847912I see then.
>>140847826I will, however, rectify my attitude within these threads, and refrain from blatantly hating. I'll just keep quiet instead, so not to ruin everyone's mood. If I have nothing good to say, then I will say nothing at all.I am terribly sorry. It won't happen again.
>>140847826Nice damage control, bro.Keep up the good work.
>>140847198[ ] mario 64[ ] good cameracheck one and only one.
>>140848231>that castlevania coverTruly historic.
>>140848416Some children would think otherwise.
PROTIP: Talk to everyone!
>>140848557>no one except micheal jordan>implying micheal jordan is even in the realm of truly rich.Dem editors.
>tfw every other month was a strategy guide devoted to a single game>tfw NP went monthly
>>140848831I definitely have read this before. I remember that mechwarrior code section.
And now, apparently, it's story time again. Now that I remember, I did promise you yesterday I would go back to the issue that had the very first comic in the series...Sorry about that. I'll see if I can make a second thread tomorrow where I'll condense all the comics.
>>140849296Apparently, Slippy is a guy.
>>140847184Did you kill your friend?
>>140842519so do I. I remember getting mad as a kid because it seemed like nintendo always gave thier own games good/perfect review scores.
>>140849296>>Hitchhiker's Guide referenceAwesome.
>>140848057This piece of shit can't tap the fucking C buttons to adjust the camera every once in a while. Jesus you are a modern Nintendo customer through and through.
>>140849534yes, yes i did
I was looking at my Nintendo power's just the other day, I started at 122.
>>140849353>FlippyWhat the actual fuck.>"Apparently Slippy is a guy">Promised not to say stuff if it wasn't goodCome on, OP. I want to respect you.
>>140849754Also, if you don't remember the Classified Information section than you had a bad childhood.
>>140849774I'm gonna be honest with you. I haven't actually followed Star Fox religiously. I am not trolling, I am truly amazed. I've only played up to Star Fox 64, and whoever did his voice had a very high pitch, which led me to believe that he was a she.
>>140844963god why did I laugh so hard at this
>dem thighs
>EtruriaWe Fire Emblem now.
>>140849607>implying nintendo games from the early 90s aren't perfect
>>140850864They aren't. But they're a quite a bit better than most games these days.
The only thing I remotely remember about this game is watching an awesome ad about it on some comic book I don't remember what it was even about anymore, and some kid on the bus who was playing it on his Game Boy.I think I'll try this game some time during the next couple of weeks. I loved Demon's Crest.
Sup Nintenbro, it's the Starfox Jacket winner guy last from last night.I asked him today and he said he did indeed get the tournament cart.I'm amazed he still has it.I'm waiting for him to email me some pics for you guys.
>>140851323Whoa, really? Dude, that's awesome. That cart is priceless.
>>140851572Not priceless but valuable indeed.Funny thing about the contest was only three people showed and one was like 5 years old.The cart and jacket was just there for the taking. My friend had his parents drive him to the demo kiosk at k mart to practice for like a week, thats how he got the edge it took to beat me.Oh god the memories, cool fucking thread man.
>>140851917He was also entered into a drawing for something but never heard anything else about it.
When I first got my very own SNES on Christmas oh, so many years ago, my dad got me Mystic Quest as my first game because why not. It took me a while to get used to the game at first, because all I ever really played before that was Sonic on the Genesis (I had a Genesis for some time because it apparently was alot more cheaper than an SNES, and they thought I wouldn't know the difference... still enjoyed the living fuck out of that Genesis, though). Anyways, the game was about going to the 4 corners of the earth, each it's own elemental theme: Eart, Water, Fire and Wind, and retrieving some Elemental Crystals to restore the balance of the world. You'd ally yourself with conveniently placed characters, and you'd topple each of the game's dungeons/castles/whatever together. The thing was, this game was an RPG. My very first RPG. I didn't even know I could save my progress because up until then, all I knew was to beat games in one sitting.By today's standards (and even if compared to it's contemporary peers), Mystic Quest is a very rudimentary, limited RPG. While extremely easy to anyone with a notion of basic JRPG combat, after I immersed myself within the game's story itself, it proved to be one of the memorable games of my childhood. Hell, I read the game's manual top to bottom, over and over for months, even after finishing the game.I miss that feeling.
>>140852063>>140851917Man, if only I was old enough to have participated back then. There's a story somewhere on the internet about two guys carpooling half way across the state (or country? don't remember) just to participate in one of those things. A novelty and nostalgia read at best.I'll see if I can find a link to that page after I finish dumping this magazine, if you want, that is.
>that swordMaximum swag
chibi ahegao
>>140841848I still own this issue I liked that cover has the Zelda 2 cover sword on it lol.
>>140854561I never really noticed it was the same sword. All I remember from that game was the shield.
I might have shit memory or something, but was that background anywhere withing Megaman X?
