Official 4chan Chrome Extension updated for new HTML! Comes with a bunch of new features including post filtering and text buttons. More features to be rolled out later this week. The new extension runs orders of a magnitude faster on large threads.
Download it here!

After nearly a decade, we've rewritten our HTML/CSS from scratch and are now running on that new code. 4chan now validates HTML5/CSS3, and with a few other tweaks we've made, pages should be loading faster than ever. The design should be 100% the same too—if you notice any wonkiness, please make sure you're using a modern browser (something from the past year). Also, try clearing your cache.

Along with the new HTML comes two new big features: a mobile-optimized layout for phones so you can browse 4chan on the go, and inline extension features.

We've built what we think are the most popular extension additions directly into the site. To toggle them on and off, click "[Settings]" in the upper-right or bottom-right of the page. These features are: Quick reply, inline image expansion, post previews (for current thread only, we will make it global soon), backlinking (see who replied to a post), and enable a new drop-down style navigation. If you'd like the other features that the Chrome extension offers, grab it here.

Please report bugs to newhtml@4chan.org. Note if you are using an old browser, that is probably why you're experiencing bugs. Please include your OS and browser + version when reporting a bug.

Ok, I'm thinking of buying Eve online.
The problem is informations I come across the web are outdated. So I have a few questions: Is it worth it? And does your race have any impact on the game other than RP. (I'm confused with this one, seems like it used to but now it doesn't?) And is there any good community forum for Eve?

Thx
>>
Anyone playing this game?
>>
>Is it worth it?
It's a sandbox.

No, race doesn't affect anything except some basic starting skills.

No, community on official EVE forums are terribad.
>>

Race and background do affect your character, though not in any permanent way. They just change your base attributes (that affect skill training time) and what ship and gunnery skills you start with. Attributes can be relocated, and there's nothing to stop you training other race's ships.

There's a few community forums, but the official one is best, at least I think so.
>>
EVE's community is fucking horrible. Game is alright though.

Is it worth it? Probably not. At least give a trial a shot before buying it.
>>
>EVE - online doesn't have 11 million players

HA, fucking sinking ship.
TORtanic all over again. xD
>>
Race does not affect anything other than the area and ship you start in, some starting skills and appearance. Any race can learn any skill.

Official EVE forums are populated, and there is a thread on /vg/
>>
Doesn't Eve still have 3 week trials?

Just get that and dick around, see if you like it. That's what I did.
>>
Race and bloodline does nothing, and your starting university only bestows a couple of day's worth of skills. Just pick whichever one makes the best portrait
>>
>>139449651

This.

The game itself is fairly solid, but the community... oh man, it's just horrible. Alot of EvE players think they're special just because they play a game with a high learning curve, but don't let it fool you. It's open PvP everywhere and you will get ganked constantly.
>>
Race is of little or no overall impact because its only the starter skills that differ and latter you can learn those too. Only the appearance is different. Do all tutorials and move on to missions to acquire some skill and money. Then you can find a corporation that you like and do missions, pvp, mining etc. with them. Learn to PvP or no fun!

Also check this ...http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Getting_Started_In_EVE_Online
>>
>>139449619
no not anymore. all race have the same attributes and there's no more learning skills to increases those attributes. There are still implants to increase the individual attributes and gain bonus.
>>
>>139449651

Name me one other MMO community that isn't afraid to tell developers to fuck off when they try to fuck them over (and no, getting 10 people to sign a petition doesn't count). The "elite 1337 pro PvP" autists are a bit annoying, but it's by far the most mature MMO community right now
>>
>>139449889
Compared with other similarly popular games I think the community is petty good, though there are also some of the most unbelievable individuals
>>
Also don't get scared by the complexity and the dimensions of the game. Yes it's hard, yes it's huge but oh boy when the moment for your first solo kill comes you will feel an excitement that no game can give you!
>>
Do you enjoy spreadsheets?
Do you enjoy metagaming the ever living FUCK out of everything?
Do you enjoy waiting for months for skills to level up so you can do something?
Do you enjoy getting told that you're always doing it wrong?
Do you enjoy the prospect of having to make millions of ISK every day or get called a useless sack of shit?
Do you enjoy wasting money on a ship that will statistically get exploded before you learn how to use it properly? And with that, do you enjoy losing everything to pirates?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then congratulations, EVE Online™ is for you!

In all honesty, it's not a terrible game, but it has a stagnating effect of being extremely boring if you don't get a raging hard on for full risk pvp. If you don't like ovoid, get prepared to be shunned as a carebear without very many friends outside of miner outfits.
>>
You'll be worthless for the first 6 months of the game and you need to specialize into something because lol wait time for skills

Also you can't do anything alone so you need to find a corporation and ho boy sometimes it's a hassle
>>
>>139450086

Pretty much every community?

>The "elite 1337 pro PvP" autists are a bit annoying, but it's by far the most mature MMO community right now
>most mature MMO community

I don't think so. I've met alot of nice people on Eve, no doubt about it, and have definately seen the community at its best....

... but then we have that part of the community which is the worst, which also happens to be the kind of community that the devs like.
>>
>>139449889
it's really hard to get "gank" , it depends on where you are in space. 0.0 space is made of mostly alliances standings so just by keeping a eye on the Local you can see if a neutral or a enemies jump in the system And that's normaly more then enough time for you to warp away to safety. Low sec is kinda the same , with gates having guns and No warp disrupting bubble, giant bubble in space that will drag you to them since when you warp you warp in a straigth line to your destination it can drag you away from the destination if position currently and stop you from warping out when your inside the field. making you very very vulnerable.
>>
>139450247

Yeah but that makes the game perfect. Boredom of waiting for what? I used to roam alone and rape people around delve and fountain for 2 years and ever single minute was worth it.

It's not worth it.

OP here, reading this.
1st of all thx for all the answers. I already finished a trial. (Some time ago)
I'm going to buy this game. Fuck it, pvp looks fun. And that's what I look in a game.
Although complexity of the game is intimidating. (In a good way)
>>
Just get Microsoft Excel.

And Dust 514

You're referring to the redditor swarm?
>>

>... but then we have that part of the community which is the worst, which also happens to be the kind of community that the devs like.

As immature as they are, these autists are necessary to prevent the game from becoming a twisted parody of itself. Without them, after a year or two CCP would start pandering to WoW rejects seeking space themed alternative and EvE would completely lose its "soul". Eve community isn't great, but you can't say it's terrible compared to other MMO communities. And I've never seen a community getting ready to burn down the whole game when devs attempted to introduce a cash shop (for example, blizzard had to introduce fucking queues for their PAID mounts)
>>
>>139450660
If you're going to fly combat ships (hell, any kind of ship) I strongly recommend you download the eve fitting tool. That's the program where you will be making all your plots and strategies, figuring out what you can kill and what can kill you
>>
>>139450983
This guy has the right idea.

They made a game where people could be bastards to eachother, that was their vision. Without it, it becomes just another themepark.

Your enjoyment of the game is vastly dependent on what you want to get out of it and how much you put into it.

The game isn't objectively fun for most people. Most of the "fun" is dependent on how hard something is to pull off.

Oh yeah and the community sucks. Tons of people who would like to believe they are good and that their method of playing the game is correct.

The sad part is that there is a "more correct" way to play the game. Namely, being rich as fuck and looking for interesting fights. Depressingly for most people interesting fights= ones I'm 100% certain of winning.
>>
i hope to god crybabies and wowfags don't come to world of darkness when ccp get around to releasing it
>>
I played for four years, three of which as a successful pirate.

The game is fun if you have friends and a buttload of free time, since most of your gaming experience will consist of floating around either making money or floating around waiting for something to shoot. Without friends who also play, the fun dies fast. You can kill NPCS but that gets boring as fuck REAL quick.

Most corps are run by A-Grade autists. Your corp leader will usually be a 20-something mongoloid with the mentality of a twelve year old, or you'll have an old fart that thinks they're XxXxXH4rDc0RE E1337 SuLdURsXxXxX and try and run their groups like they've been in the fucking military. Either way, they're usually Britfags, and they will look down on you if you do not spend 8 hours a day mining for the corp or otherwise making them rich with your own effort.

I should also mention that if you attempt to PvP when you first get the game, you will get fucking raped. You will get raped so goddamn hard for at least six months until your fighting skills are leveled up and you have a little bit of coin to spend on actual good gear.

The only way to have real fun is to be a pirate, and even that can be shitty since you have to kill NPCs for cash and to raise your security rating, but you can only do that at certain times since otherwise every alliance blob in the black will be on your ass trying to kill you for laughs. So yeah, be prepared to metagame like a motherfucker and have EVE regulate your sleeping patterns so you can go ratting at low-pop times.

tl;dr version: Don't bother unless you have friends who play, or IRL cash to spend to jump-start your PvP career.
>>
It's a fun game if you have some more vetted people helping you out and showing you the ropes, people you know well preferably; no, /v/ does not count.
>>
>>139451853
Don't know anyone that plays the game. (OP here)
This will be hard.
>>
>>139451613

At first as a person who never played Eve i was like, the fuck is going on, then i saw the BIG BULK OF FUCKING STEEL to the right, hey i remmeber that bulk of steel, then i looked to the left and saw the name of the zone: Jita.

Oh scumbags gonna scum.
>>
I used to play the hell out of Eve back in early high school but something happened and I quit. I've tried to get back into it lately but it just seems different somehow and won't keep me involved, like the whole soul of the game or whatever is just completely dead. I have a lot of great memories of playing with friends and meeting new people though, so if you can keep with it, more power to you.
>>
>>139451853
Don't listen to anything this guy says, he's massively retarded.
>>
>>139452171
that big hulk of steel is just a station.

Most systems have multiples. And as its jita - its hard to explain whats going on.

Pvp in this game is quite literally very fucking complex with a lot going on - but it doesn't really look like much.

If you want to get a feel for what larger engagements are, go watch rooks and kings video's (all three clarion call ones, then 'anatomy of a fight' and ironclad) that just covers *one* portion of fighting.
>>
>>139452630
the Jita riots, back when CCP was talking about introducing the cash shop and was like "aw yeah look at these numbers we sold so many monocles"

it was just to illustrate the lengths players will go to to try and make their game less shitty.
>>
>>139452417
Says the guy who likely never left empire

> I've tried to get back into it lately but it just seems different somehow and won't keep me involved, like the whole soul of the game or whatever is just completely dead.
They added carriers and a lot of other gay shit.
>>
>>139453065
Bro, I've been a low sec and 0.0 pirate since 05.
>>
EVE can be fun but not in the beginning, you will have to deal with a month or two of just plain old not fun because your cant fly anything or fit anything correctly yet. once you get a decent amount of skills, such as being able to fly a drake correctly, you can try to hook up with a small wormhole corp or 0.0 pet corp and move into the fun part of space, most small corps are made up of pretty decent people and they can show you the ropes of how things work, that and you make pretty good money in lawless space.

though tbh you will either hate the game or love it, its just how it goes.

>low sec

If you aren't retarded, you will never get podded in low sec. They aren't at risk.
>>
>>139453512
What, you mean because of no bubbles? There's a period of paralysis after entering your pod that's meant to give people a chance to lock it; so long as you were riding a ship to begin with you might be podded anywhere
>>
i don't even get why mining is still in this game, it seems like a gigantic newblet trap

you literally make more money on the order of magnitudes by just joining a 0.0 sec corp and having them fit you out for pvp than by full-kitted mining, even megacyte or whatever the unobtainium mineral is called isn't that great
>>
>>139453902
you need minerals to build ships and modules, you need ice to fuel generators and POSs, and you need everything else science related to make everything else.
do you understand what would happen if they just completely removed mining?
>>
>>139453750
Nope, you spam warp before dying, your pod warps out instantly. I fly with about 300m in my head in frigates.

Also, I can't really get on with that video. The amount of damage he's taking to armour and hull just to convince people he's not permatanking them, and how he never overloads his invuln. Also the music.
>>
>>139454107
It is good however to see him killing people I know. I fucking hate hasmijaala russians, and I fucking hate gal/cal fw. Been pvping these fags for years.
