I'm really late to this conversation but I don't understand why anyone uses large banks. I use a local credit union and get 4.5% apy on my checking account up to 10K, have no overdraft fees and can use any atm for free. all I have to do is make 12 debit transactions a month, have one thing be direct deposit and use online banking. I have over 70K of liquid assets in there at the moment and they are all just as insured as a major bank.

any other evils banks commit where you can't just switch banks are mostly caused by lack of regulation anyway.
