    >encounter/level design bad

I thought it was good. Plenty of different enviroments and such, and enemies had atleast different tactics for once.

The only drama they did right was if you choose to shoot Mordin. That was the Shepard I wanted to see all the time, willing to do anything to stop the Reapers, even if meant killing your own allies. Instead we get a military trained soldier who kills quite literally hundreds and thousands of people yet almost cries at the sight of a single child dying.

No, seriously, fuck the storyline. Fuck it all. I thought the game was great up until the ending, The disappointment is immense.

Imagine, if you will, a world where hamburger Helper was never born. Come with me on a journey through this magical land

The climatic battle comes. You see many of your war efforts in action, Rachni scurring though ship hulls, batarians manning guns, etc etc etc. But you are not battling to get to the deus ex machina citadel, but the lead ship of the reapers which has landed on earth. You battle your way through the ruined futuristic city and enter the ship.

You battle to the heart of the Reaper, it taunting you as you wonder why it has hallways to walk through at all. It tells you that they were created long, long ago. Then you reach the center, its an interface with the reaper AI core. Before you can destroy it, the reaper tells you the truth behind the Reapers

Long ago, the creators found out that dark energy was being formed and was being drawn to the galactic core. There it was destroying the matter at the heart of the galaxy, and would eventually unravel it, extinguishing all life. Dark energy was determiend to be a byproduct of creating mass effect fields. However the creators saw no way to stop all races from using them forever, especially as new races rose and discovered how to create them. So they decided to save their own race by creating a massive AI army designed to sweep the galaxy clean of all mass effect using races.

So they expended all of their resources to create the Reapers and the mass effect relays to allow them to sweep the galaxy while creating as little dark energy as possible. However they made the reapers too powerful, and were unable to control them, and they too were harvested. And then the Reapers did as they were programmed.

You now stand at the controls, and examining them, you find that reapers collect the sum of universal understanding from each race they harvest, and in its memory a galaxy's knowledge 100 times over. Now you have to make a choice.

Do you kill the AI core of the lead reaper? Doing so will throw all Reapers into disarray. They will continue killing, but will be so unorganized and without purpose that the glactic alliance will defeat them... but at heavy cost of life. But you would have all of that knowledge, and maybe you could find a solution to the dark energy problem through it.

Or do you send out a self destruct order to all Reapers. This would destroy all of them, including the one you are in, but it would end the Reaper threat for good, and save many species from extinction. But you would lose that collective knowledge, but maybe all races, working together, can find a solution, just like you did for the reapers.

Or finally, do you chose to implant humans as the new "creators' of the reapers? It would make all reapers avoid killing humans, but they would still harvest all other mass effect using species. Humanity would survive though, and perhaps you could learn to control the reapers in a way the creators failed to... or perhaps not.

I took control as well... Shep became part of the Reaper hivemind to control them (the conduit said he 'died', but his consciousness was still there, else he wouldn't be able to control them). After the Reapers leave and the relays are destroyed, what would keep hive-mind-reaper-Sheppard from coming back once things settle down, transferring his mind into a new body with the Reaper tech he now controls, and rebuilding the relays for everyone with the left over Husks on the various Reaper ships??? Then he can live his new immortal life on Earth with Liara, with an armada of Reapers just outside the solar system to call on if needed. In fact, he even used his Reaper tech to resurrect Mordin so they could retire to the beach where Mordin studied the seashells afterall! The cycle is stopped since god-Sheppard just destroys any synthetic life with an iron fist as soon as it get's too powerful.

Shitty writing and a desire to make epic space battles :( Not that there's anything wrong with epic space battles but the way they should of done it was cut out the Collector nonsense and make ME2 about building up our defenses and getting technologies in anticipation for the Reaper invasion...ME3 would then still be the invasion but your ability to counter it would hinge on how well you played ME2.

ME1 - give the finger to the reapers, kill Sovereign and Saren, feel like a big goddamn hero, satisfying ending.

ME2 - give the finger to the reapers (Harbinger specifically), kill the Collectors, feel like a big goddamn hero, satisfying ending.

ME3 - push a win button that makes the Reapers go away, destroy galactic civilization and kill practically every teammate you've ever worked with, unsatisfying ending.

No no no. The Protheans lost because the Reapers were able to hit the Citadel outright and destroy all leadership in one surprise battle. They didn't have that for ME3.

And go back to the first game and replay Ilos. Vigil says it took hundreds of years for the Reapers to win. That's why nearly all the Protheans there died, because the power keeping the cryostasis working was giving out because the Reapers threat was still ongoing.

Shitty, unsatisfying downer endings are considered art these days because they make you "think."

Movies have been doing it for a few years now. Notice how almost no movie released after 2007/2008 has one of those "everyone wins, let's ride off into the sunset as better people" endings like they all did in the 70's and 80's? They all have to have some forced, "deep" ending where the conflict is resolved but the hero and everyone he knows still gets fucked in the ass.

Sovereign had the benefit of an entire Geth armada behind him too. And ME3 establishes that Reaper tech boosts their abilities greatly which would explain why the odds were so stacked, especially with the Destiny Ascension. Not to mention it was a complete surprise against the Citadel in the first one against a fleet that based on loading cutscenes normally adopts a loose defensive posture.

I had the impression that the Reapers were so unstoppably powerful that the concept of fighting them at all was laughable and that they were efficient as fuck so i thought the entire concept of Reapers taking weeks to destroy and homeworld with big laser beams while we fight back and manage to harm them was contradictory to the first two games.

I mean, I understand that the Reapers weren't as strong as Sovereing made them out to be, but shit, they felt really fucking weak in ME3. I mean, yeah, Sovereign still had surprise factor and a whole armada of geth ships on his side, but he still wrecked some major shit when it all went down and everyone sent ships and whatnot. I mean, like, I remember they couldn't even penetrate his shields until after they beat techno Saren (which was still kind of retarded but oh well).

No it wasn't. The Reapers moved fast, but they didn't instantaneously appear everywhere. The Batarians were hit first, then Humanity and from there the rest of the alien races. There's a reason you take part in the battle for Thessia long after Earth is nothing more than a guerilla operation. Not to mention the planet descriptions mention the Reapers spreading themselves incredibly thin to maintain that amount of frontal attack.
