Because :

1. /v/ hasn't taken video games too seriously in ages and that's one of the prime reasons why this is different from other game discussion sites.

2. All the actual videogames that aren't speculation / only at development stages have moved onto /vg/. And before the inevitable /v/tard asshurt starts, /vg/ and /v/ are like two stories of the same house so there's no need for dumb dickwaving over which one is better because the userbases are largely the same.

I used to browse video game related threads a lot more often before the split. Now that /vg/ has all of the vidya, I don't really care about it anymore. That place is so boring. There's no crazy second side, it's just video game discussion.

I like what /v/ has become. There's nothing we can do about it now, so choose what you liked about /v/ before the split. Was it really the video games? If it was, you know where to go. and if you can't stand that the two elements aren't in harmony anymore, I guess you're done with 4chan's video games culture.

The split was supposed to allow /v/ to have much more varied threads related to video game discussion. At least, those threads have more visibility, because they aren't being bumped off page 1 24/7 by SC2, LoL, etc. discussion.

The point of the split was not to sequester all vidya to /vg/ or make vidya discussion on /v/ optional.

Except /vg/ is vastly different from the /v/ that used to be about vidya. /vg/ discusses the same 4-5 games ad naseum while adopting a forum culture because the threads are longer and the discussion is re-accuring. Not to mention the avatar and tripfaggotry is more accepted there since adopting a personal lends itself to long term discussion.

vidya on /v/ was never re-occuring, we talked about a variety of games and made fun of them, even if that lead to a little off-topic discussion or memes getting created.

/v/ was never just about video games. I could have a tab open about System Shock and another about Dwarf Fortress. I could be reading a WH40K comic or having a nostalgia thread at the same time. Hell, I could even have a FUCKING GAMESTOP thread open and smirk at one of the overtly stupid stories.

/v/ was never just about the video games (although they did play a large part on the board whether you want to acknowledge it or not). It was about the community. It was about being able to share your fun memories with other people who had similar memories. It was about expressing your true opinions on a game series. And, yes, it was about our borderline retarded inside jokes. But most of all, it was that all of this was wrapped up into a single package.

TLDR: /v/ was about the inside jokes as much as the vidya. Without both, the board would be as soulless as any of the other 10,000 regular video games board. That's as many as as 1000 10's. And that's terrible.

I would love to discuss video games, however the simple fact that all the actual video games ended up in /vg/ makes it impossible. Nostalgia threads have two or three people talking in them, mostly just reminiscencing the good old times without any form of criticism. List games that X threads have no discussion because they are just that, lists. The current situation makes me unable to actually discuss video games on /v/ and I want it changed. And it did.
