a few here have said, it's hard to characterize all of the USA, due to
the regional differences. That said, I think that, in general, the
American people are decent, well-meaning sorts. However, our culture is
petty, selfish, and self-destructive, and the rampant consumerism,
combined with a general lack of education, is threatening this country.
The corporate machine, along with it's greatest weapon, mass media, has
gotten it's claws deep into the system.
I think the United States is in imminent danger of becoming a complacent, corporate-ruled police state.
That
said, despite all my criticisms of it, I still love my country and
think that, despite its screw-ups, it has mostly been a force of good in
the world. |
