I always see it talked of as if it is a single, homogeneous land. But that's not the truth at all.
The United States is really a consortium of smaller mini-countries. Travel to California, you get a whole different vibe and experience than if you travel to Arizona, Texas, Utah, Michigan, Maine, etc. The most reasonable people I have met are all from Colorado (Boulder, specifically) and I absolutely refuse to travel for any length of time anywhere in the south. The States is alright to live in, although I don't like how idiotic the political system is, how you have to be one side or the other regardless of advantages and disadvantages they both, and to combine both advantages would mean you're a communist.

I also don't like how the jobs are a huge catch 22. You need experience but it's one of those jobs you can never get experience in.

As a few here have said, it's hard to characterize all of the USA, due to the regional differences. That said, I think that, in general, the American people are decent, well-meaning sorts. However, our culture is petty, selfish, and self-destructive, and the rampant consumerism, combined with a general lack of education, is threatening this country. The corporate machine, along with it's greatest weapon, mass media, has gotten it's claws deep into the system.

I think the United States is in imminent danger of becoming a complacent, corporate-ruled police state.

That said, despite all my criticisms of it, I still love my country and think that, despite its screw-ups, it has mostly been a force of good in the world.

I love it here. I however will admit my American experience is not common. I've lived and grown up in a mid sized town in North Dakota and I can honestly say I love where I live. I never want to leave and I plan on raising a family in this very town.

As an American, I believe America is extremely retarded. Entertainment corporations and copyright are the true government. People have been brainwashed into thinking that piracy is "immoral" and that anyone that questions it is just "trying to justify themselves". ACTA, SOPA, PIPA - They're all the same exact thing. They're just going to keep watering it down slightly until one of them finally passes. They see the degree of backlash caused by SOPA and PIPA recently, so they'll do whatever they can to regain public support - And it will work, eventually. "Don't worry guys! This bill really is the one that just stops piracy!" That's what we'll hear, and people will believe it.

What people don't understand is that the goal we are fighting towards, even if accomplished, is not something that's going to benefit anyone other than game publishers, not developers, PUBLISHERS, and people who are already rich. They've trained the American people overall to believe that if "THE CHOSEN ONES" are not involved, and if some transaction of money is not happening, "It's immoral!" Oh no!

The fact of the matter is that more and more people are willing to provide free entertainment every single day. If they're not going to do it, someone else will - And that scares the shit out of them. They don't want times to change. They want to stay on top, and keep themselves rich - But that's not enough. We also have to remain in the working class. Being miserable, for them. It's not enough for them to live a life of luxury. That doesn't satisfy them. They have to know someone is being tortured so that they can live their life of luxury.

Main problems with America:
