I'm not sure what's wrong with me. Well that's an oxymoron actually. I've been diagnosed with cancer about a year ago, I've gone through 6 months of chemo and a month of radiation. I used to be a big time gamer, but now it feels like I don't want to game anymore even though deep down, I do.

Gaming got me through Chemo. I played a lot of HoN to try to forget my pain, and when I did radiation I went and bought a psp and played that on the way to the hospital and back everyday for a month. Now though, I bought Battlefield 3 for example, played it for maybe 6 hours and then I stopped. I played Red dead redemption for 2 hours and I stopped, I bought Deus ex and Witcher 2 but I havn't even opened them up yet.

When I watch a video on youtube about battlefield 3, I say to myself "wow that's halarious/great/whatever - I should play this right now!" and I dont.

    How Do I fix this?

jesus christ. you're two years older than I am. what a horrible age for something like this.

how has the treatment been, and are you recovering swiftly? I damn hope so.

as for gaming apathy, we all have it here. it may just have to do with your growing older/maturation. games don't hold our attention like they used to.

recovery's a bitch. Lost my saliva production and gonna be on a pill for the rest of my life.

As for growing out of it, maybe. But I'm not doing anything else right now. It's making me feel ever more depressed knowing that I could at least be enjoying my time, but arn't

I'm in remission I guess? Life expectancy is anywhere between 5-20 . 5 being from the cancer; 20 being from chemo/radiation which will probably cause a 2nd cancer (lung, skin, etc)

did you have a family history of lymphoma/any predisposing causes? or did it emerge out of fucking nowhere?

that's the kind of thing that frightens me most, and you're very courageous to have gone through it.

nah man. Out of fucking nowhere.

I'm a very healthy person. I'm not athletic but my blood and blood pressure and heart and lungs when tested showed that I might as well be one (before cancer treatment they did a bunch of diagnostic tests to see wtf could have made this happen). Doctors told me, and I quote "You've got the internal body of an athletic, excpet for the massive tumor in your chest *laughs*"

I have like over 30 family members. none of them have had any cancer.

Hmhm... I know this is weird coming from /v/... but maybe you should not play video games instead do something else... what i don't know.

what a dick. i'm glad you're still with us.

i'm going to bed (murrifat here) but take care, dude. movies are always fun too, and they don't require as much an investment of time as games.

You probably unconsciously are thinking about what else to do now that you have a second lease on life. Your brain feels like video games are a waste but your conscious mind wants to play. I know after I had testicular cancer I gave up games for almost 2 years so I could go and see everything I could. That was 3 years ago now, and I feel more satisfied with myself. I enjoy games again but it was only after I just did things that would make me happy (ex. I bought a dog on a whim, I learned to draw better, I learned to rock climb and go cave exploring.)

That really sucks op you'll be in my prayers. I suggest just diving into Deus Ex and giving it a shot that game really pulled me in and I basically couldn't stop playing it for like 3 days straight.

dude I thought about going on a 15 day cruise, but doctors dont want me to.

I thoguht about going back to school, docs dont want me to (too many ppl, immune system shot to shit) also that applies to anything social - movies, resturants, etc.

I thought about getting a job. I'm starting one next week but honestly, I'm not fucking motivated.

I've thought about jumping off of a building, but it's kinda useless after all this pain and suffering- shoulda done it before chemo.

Oh and I can't fucking work out because my thryoid is fucked and my muscles are weak.

what else is there to do other than gaming?
    >> Anonymous 01/25/12(Wed)07:47 No.126548501
Take a break from the vidya OP, seriously.

It's possible to feel burnt out on a hobby, find another one and come back to it in a week or however long you feel you should have a break from it. It'll come back. <3

This happened to me and art, at first I drew for like 3 months at like 9 hours a day everyday and after that i was pretty sick of drawing so I ended up doing a ton of 3dsmax organic modelling tutorials. Was pretty cool seeing all that I was learning apply back to drawing when I went back to it.

Have you tried Warhammer OP? If you like the universe try collecting and painting warhammer. It's a lot of fun and despite popular belief you can make some really awesome normalfag bros from it. A huge time investment if you enjoy painting, too.

    Yeah. What this guy says.
You get burnt out, especially when you game intensely. Also, if you do it but you're not really enjoying it, but you feel compelled to, that makes it unpleasant and eventually you can't put up with it.

Reassess your values. Pick something else to do.

Cancer is a random mutation that may well be one of the primary triggers for evolution. You're evolving but our world don't need you yet.

    Godspeed you, bro.
