Hey man, I pumped quarters into a lot of the machines at the arcade near my place. It closed down almost 5 years ago.

What was great about that arcade in particular is it stayed up to date with its games while keeping the classic games people still played a lot. And they actually fixed their machines when they had problems.

Arcade games are the best games.

The main draw of consoles in the 80s and early 90s was to play games "as good at home as they are in the arcade". Even games that weren't straight ports still looked up to arcade games.

Then faggots decided they want "immersion" and "story" and other fagtastic qualities which is my console gaming is the laughing stock.

Just build the cabinet sturdy to hold the shit, make sure it has ventilation for shit, dress it up, use mame for arcade and buy some sticks for PC and then cut out a thin plexi that you you close over the sticks, lock the sticks in place on the cabinet and slide it over, don't even have to mess with wiring up shit, all usb if you want. Unless you want to break for expensive as fuck high quality sticks, maybe even a spinner and a trackball. Beyond that, it's really just setting up a front end for mame and sticking your machine in a wood cabinet. You can run a plug up for lighting the top with a painted plexi in front of it for signage. It's not hard, just tedious and costs you parts and tools.

It's still fun to go occasionally, but every time it depresses me how shit it is compared to like 10 years ago. I don't think even the DDR fags go there anymore because the machine has been broken for fucking ever, and there's only 1 instead of like 3.

I only played arcade games when I got my hair cut at the barbershop, Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 for 25 cents when most places wanted a dollar per play. Fuck that, that's another reason arcades died; each play became too goddamn expensive. The only arcade we have now is the little one in the Brenden Theatre, and the one in the Paddock bowling alley. Back in the 90's we had a huge one in the shopping mall. The last time I was there I was playing that firefighter game where you have a hose and have to save people in a burning mansion and you had to watch your pressure gauge. It's now a starbucks and some sports jersey store nobody really shops at.

Besides, if I went in one now, I'd look like a jackass.

I went to an arcade once and I swear it did exactly this. There were a shitload of plain white arcade cabinets in the back row, with half of them broken or turned off, basically as ghetto as possible, and all of them were running games that you could easily play on MAME. I couldn't prove it, but it was pretty obvious. That whole place fucking sucked ass but I somehow managed to make some fun out of it by fucking around, like playing air hockey with 2 pucks.

Also, the Fudrucker's (buttfuckers) has a little area, but that's full of kids who probably need to wash their hands. Besides, it would be more enjoyable WITHOUT the arcade machines there so I can enjoy my burger in peace. That reminds me of when I went to Chuck-E-Cheese when I was a kid. Went for some kid's birthday. Got sick the day after. Those arcades are full of germs.

Nigger I spent my entire time in arcades back when you could still SMOKE in them. All my money went to Violent Storm, X-Men arcade, Alien VS Predator, fucking T2 Judgement day, good times man...and then they passed that faggot law that said you can't smoke in establishments anymore...and right around that time people stopped coming, and slowly they got rid of all the good games and replaced them with light gun games.

My arcade is still around, but I wouldn't exactly call it an "arcade" anymore. All the games they have now are racing games and light gun games and one, count em' ONE cabinet with Street Fighter III.

It's a damn shame to walk by and see what's become of it and it breaks my heart everytime.

I would go to arcades all the time if all the ones around here weren't like pic related.

GUYS LET'S PLAY DEAL OR NO DEAL IT'S JUST LIKE THE TEEVEE SHOW LMAO OMG

I did go to one at either Mohegan Sun or Foxwoods casinos and off in the corner they had maybe three or four cabinets with Ms. Pac-man, Centipede/Millipede, Space Invaders, Galaga, things like that, and I spent all the coins I had there.

I also went camping once where there was an arcade thing for some reason. Most of the games were broken but there was South Park pinball and The Simpson's game which I managed to get my whole family in on. Also had a jukebox, so I blasted Journey while playing. I don't even like Journey that much, but it just seems right to have it playing in an Arcade.

Since this is an arcade thread I thought I'd ask...

I played this game at a huge arcade years back. The controller was a sword and you hand to stand in/hold it in this motion capture arc connected to the machine. It was kind of like if a light gun game was played with a sword. Set in mythological Japan. Player had to slash enemies on screen and turn the blade the right way to block. It was fun as fuck.

For some reason I think its called something similar to Majin or Mazin but I can't find shit on it.

Really, you don't need anything special. I have a few of the $2 ones from monoprice, which is why I suggested them. They have a nunchuk passthrough in case you need it, too. Any flaws are easily fixed, like the fact that it's got a dumb little clicky thing inside for no reason.

Shit's great. The only thing you really need it for is to create a shell that changes the way the controller is held, so it's actually worth it unlike the other plastic crap for the wii remote.

I remember the first time I saw Soul Calibur 2 in the arcade. Was the most glorious moment ever. Then I bought the game for the PS2 and became really good at it. At this casino in Nevada, they had an arcade with it. We'd have people crowd around and watch and have little tournaments. There would be like 15 people standing around watching such amazing battles. Fucking tournaments. And remember when they had those coin slots to show who's turn it was next?

1 House of the Dead 3 or 4
    1 Time Crisis 3 or 4
Maybe a Silent Scope game of some description
    Some older racing games

Random CPS2 cabinet with a tiny screen and shit sticks but a ton of games if you flip the power

I know this post will get overlooked/unreplied to due to so many people flooding the thread with bullshit, but live in NYC and used to go to the china town arcade, problem is all those faggots are always huddling around the fucking machines and won't let anyone else have a turn because some one "Famous" was in the house and then they would all fucking clog up the arcade just fucking standing there watching some one "Famous" play and they wouldn't tell them to get the fuck off the goddamn game because some one else wanted to play. There would be so many fucking people just standing there that you would literally come to the fucking arcade, open the door, feel the humid heat blast hit your face due to so many people just fucking standing there, see it was clogged up by so many fatasses watching Jwong or some other "Famous" fag playing one of the machines, then you would NOPE.jpeg and close the door and go home. the.

tl;dr the reason why the fucking arcade in china town closed down was because when one of those "Famous" fags came to play so many people would show up to the point were people that actually WANTED to play a few games couldn't because there was no room in the arcade.... I'm not even joking, anyone who went to china town arcade would tell you this..

Then it closed. There's another arcade in that mall now but it's basically populated entirely by little Korean kids so it feels weird to go there. Plus all the games are a dollar or more a pop except the shitty ticket games. Anyone else ever played Mazan Flash of Blade? You know, that "light-gun" (used a sword instead and only 1 player) game where you play as a Japanese swordsman and go kill a bunch of demons and shit?

They should make a Wii port.

Because it was my only reason for joining my family in going to lolGreatWolfLodge (not a fan of water parks) and they got rid of it after some dickwad broke it...

In a few years, I plan to sell everything I own. It'll easily be enough to cover the cost of starting up an arcade. I'll stock the damn thing with as many awesome games as I can manage, and be one of the only ones within 100 miles.

It'll be a losing proposition, and my main goal will be to keep it afloat as long as possible for my own amusement before it crashes and burns. I'll be making no attempts at running a successful business, only running the kind of arcade I'd love to have around.

I'm hoping for the time of my life.

There's plenty of games to be had at Wunderland. Stop being a closedminded asshole.

What's the fucking point to go to an arcade? So you can play decade old games with broken controls and a bunch of kids running around? Your arcade will NEVER be as cool or exciting as you once remembered or heard about because you aren't a kid anymore.

Like what? I'm asking seriously. Most of them don't even good light gun games anymore.

No, it won't be because they're all family fun centers anymore. There certainly are arcades, especially in Japan, that are that wonderful.

Wunderland has nothing good, last time I went with a friend there was like 3 shooters, 2 driving games, 1 weird japanese one where you would push into each other.

AND A SHIT LOAD OF SHITTY TICKET/CRANE GAMES.

If wunderland sold pizza, it would be exactly the same as chuck e cheese.

What's funny is that when I was a kid, most of the people in arcades were older than me. They were high school to college aged people.

I don't know sadly, They removed their arcade listings a while ago and I haven't gone in forever. Last time I was there they had a few decent mounted games and maybe one or two lightgun games. Doesn't matter, What matters is that we hang out and have FUN. Alien concept isn't it?

uh, arcades have been dead since 1991 bro.
