I would have thought smuggler would be a good story since the counterpart, Imperial Agent is the best story. So what's the best Republic story? I've liked both Sith stories and Agent. BH isn't all that good, more like a cheesy 80s action movie like Predator or Running Man, but he has the coolest companions by far.

Sales records do not mean shit in an MMO.
Warhammer sold a million copies early on and look what happened.

Subscriptions matter, and in the next two weeks most people's free month expires. The population then will be the sign of success or failure.

    >Bad publicity is still publicity
This is only true for single-payment games.
If SWTOR had been BTP (and been funded to be as such) it would have done fine, and would probably have made more money than it has (or will).

See, in single-payment games, people will chip out money just to see how bad something actually is. MMOs, on the other hand, require constant payments to keep playing, and thus are viewed more as an investment.

Thus bad publicity will two things:
    1. People to not buy your game because they don't want to risk paying a lot of cash for a game they can play only a limited time, and even then might not get to experience the entirety of it.
    2. Cause subscribers to cancel their subscription out of fear for such things affecting them.

The subscription-based MMO market is vastly different from the normal video game market. It is Bioware and EA's lack of understanding in this manner that is why SWTOR will fail.

Showing people the game exists is going to generate more attention, and probably more sales due to this, and there's already been people in these threads who have mentioned that they brought the game for a month just to see how bad it is. Here's an honest opinion from someone who bought the retail CE edition.

The game did seem good, it really did, sure it was obvious some bugs would be at launch, and such things, but hey, Bioware is gonna fix it, right?

The game launches, luckily I have my week off from work (was actually random) so I was all over this shit, I played all the way to 50 long before anyone else, my guild was around the same level too, so we were all raid-ready pretty fast. (pre-launch guild full of "pro" mmo players)

We pretty much clear everything pretty fast (we are among the world first still to clear most content except for the hardest mode, nightmare mode)

Slowly, it all starts to flash back, I quit WoW cause I was tired of doing the same shit every single day (5 years)

Then I realized it.. That's what I'm doing, I'm doing dailies, do my shit, log out, log on later, raid, log out.

So it made me realize this is WoW, this is 100% WoW with another skin.

So I have exams and shit, so I don't log on for a 3-4 days time, I still check out the forums though, and oh, what the fuck is that? Bioware has no fucking clue how to balance their classes, I read their latest "update" on Marauders and Juggernaughts, which is fucking retarded, with the little faith there's left in me, I check another dev post, whats that? Oh, someone complaining about bad textures, surely Bioware will fix this? NOPE! "in the future" which means fucking never.

Which leads me back to Stephen Reid, he once said during an interview "I just want the game to stay alive, thats the goal right now"

THAT'S YOUR GOAL? TO STAY ALIVE? WHAT ABOUT CONTENT? WHAT ABOUT BALANCING? WHAT ABOUT SOME ACTUAL PLAYER SUPPORT?

Back to my guild, I speak with the GM, since I've been afk (not because of -me-) 5-7 people are online at a time (this is a guild with 30 members)

This shit is sinking, and I'm sad it is but honestly I have no idea what Bioware is doing because this is just..Wow.

the geniuses at bioware have decided that server forums are too much and all servers will be under one forum. if you wish to make a post in that forum you have to [server name] TOPIC, same goes for their new and improved guild and event forums.

the best thing is that biodrones think that bioware is doing them a favor

Take a look at this from VGChartz:
    http://gamrreview.vgchartz.com/sales-data/31584/star-wars-the-old-republic/

A game that sells on the first week as well as SWTOR does should not have this much off a fall-off.
Not to mention the number of subscribers in-game has steadily been falling, as well (and we're not even past the "free" month).

SWTOR is getting a fuck ton of publicity (both good and bad), yet sales and subscriptions are doing nothing but falling. It seems like when it comes to this game, no amount of publicity is helpful.

I can't get over Bioware's explanation for the textures.

When you consolidate textures into atlases, you're supposed to make the atlas roughly as big as all the textures combined. So if you stuck 4 512x512 textures onto one 1024x1024 (4x the size) the textures don't lose resolution, the memory footprint (size) doesn't change, but drawcalls go down.

    All games do this.

How the fuck was this an excuse for suddenly shrinking your texture atlases until everything looks like ass? Atlasing your textures doesn't force you to bring the resolution down.

I know that it's probably the hero engine being different from every other engine in not being able to handle big enough textures to atlas properly, but they won't admit it that their engine is so horrible that it single handedly ruins the most expensive game ever made.

Instead they act like this is some special sacrifice that has to be made for making an MMO, all you have to do is google Tera Online or Planetside 2 to see how full of shit Bioware is. Yet Biodrones won't do they, they refuse to aknowledge the existence of any modern MMO that looks better than SWTOR.

After Bioware inevitably gets liquidated by EA I hope this follows them and they never get another job in the industry, I want to see hamburger helper working in a tollbooth.

That's the point. Every MMO since WoW has had this shit happen, and now even the "great" SWTOR, with all its overbudgeting and time, still managed to have that shit happen.

There have been no successful subscription-based MMOs since WoW. That's why the FTP (and BTP) model is becoming so big in the West nowadays.

To be fair it's the Hero Engine's fault, it's horrendous, it's so reliant on cpu time yet it can't even handle multicore cpus, your quad/hexacores are useless the thing just bottlenecks on one core. I wouldn't be surprised if the blocky shadows or AA weren't gpu accelerated at all in the engine.

Someone at EA made the decision to use it, there had to be early warning signs when they started working with Hero and realized how terrible it was, the coders had to of known and said something.

I can only guess that someone too powerful to question fought to keep using the engine, and now that this all fell apart they'll get what they deserve.

This is worse than DA2 ever was, DA2 had bad content, SWTOR has bad content and an engine that can't even do the basics right.

Anyone else feel bad for the normal SWTOR players? Like the guys who bout the game and generally want it to be better, but get shot down and ridiculed by Biodrones

    >Bioware
    >thinking they can program
While programming an engine from scratch, especially for an MMO, is a titanic task, even greater than that of making a normal engine, "fixing" an engine can be much harder

The problem is, when you are trying to "fix an engine," that means you have to read through what the initial programmer did, take time to understand it, and then modify it to both do what you want, as well as optimizing it. There is a certain point where you end up changing so many things, that it would have been simply better to build it yourself.

Now, I'm not saying Bioware needed to build their own engine. That would have been just as bad of an idea (possibly even worse). However, they should not have bought a license to an engine that needed so much overhaul. I have no idea what engine would have worked better, but surely there was more than one option that was better than HeroEngine.
